co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons

If it wasn't for him I might have had to exercise as a kid rather than fighting ogres and trolls with my two handed sword and +1 magic armor!

Man, just not a good week. I only dabbled in the D&D, but can only imagine how much influence it had on fantasy role playing games (ultima online for one).

Gary Gygax's influence reaches FAR beyond just D & D and into role playing games on the whole, huge character in the field.

I still tell my kids I am going to pull out the Dungeon Masters Guide, Player Handbook and Monster Manual and teach them how to play...

i'm about to get into a minicampaign with old d&d pals. i think i may play the role of a jainist fighter this time, which will be wack. jainists are those people who don't kill anything and even dust off the ground in front of them to avoid killing small living things and wear masks over their mouths to avoid inhaling and killing germs.

i'm going to be a real annoyance to have along. thanks gygax.

I always enjoyed playing a Monk. They were tough to get to survive the first few levels, but in later levels they get pretty dangerous...my best was like a 9th or 10th level Monk and he could kill lower level opponents with an open hand slap, it was awesome.

yeah i would often play clerics or druids or something. i forget all the types, but i'd usually be a non-human race with some kind of religion. but i'd usually make the religion really strange.

Chaotic Neutral Monk...the bomb, completely unpredictable but always troublesome.

awww... I've moved to GURPS thought I started on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... and Starwars D6...and then a campaign in Rifts... but a well run D&D game was always good...

my last character was a dwarf fighter who had an enchanted axe with a level 15 sunbeam spell... I could take on hoards of undead...once a day...

I played the other era spinoffs of D&D...Gamma World (futuristic D&D), Top Secret (James Bond stuff), Boot Hill (Wild West), they were all fun, but nothing beats good ol D&D to me.

During the upheavel at TSR a few other companies jumped in the RPG game arena, future games seemed to be the majority of the themes. I played a few, I always liked TSR's games better until Gygax left, he was a great visionary.

it's gods way of telling him "you done messed up when you went to wizards... but 4th edition is inexcusable"

on a serious note, as an avid gamer, this is sad indeed.

I've still got my first edition books right here. Anyone up for a play by post game? haha

I am looking for my original edition game box, I know I have it, I went looking for the basic game online yesterday and it just doesn't look the same as the good ol original boxed edition. I know Ihave the first edition advanced books, well, Players Handbook and Dungeon Masters guide anyway, I never had the Monster Manual, my neighbor did...
