here are the lyrics:
why do people have to go up to the clouds
why cant they stay with us on the grounds
be a good boy , be a good girl
stay on the ride until you hurl
refrain:
its happening everyday at our eye
kids are forgetting to zipper their fly
try if you must try if you maybe
better hurry up we're getting lazy
verse:
cavemen created the wheel
guess thats kinda surreal
self liking scum that dosent like himself
civil rights broke out and then the naked elf
harmony:(no singing, cool guitar riff)
verse: Im on the scene keepin it clean cause your so right
on the tube it was forseen
all that was clean just turned obseen
Refrain:
verse:
why do you think i am singing this
i dont know its your chance for analysis
no R rated for minors anymore
bush is sendin' us off to war
harmony:
verse:
now its the needle thats pinchin'
to kill not the lynchin'
whats happened today to our society
hey kid, 21? can i see some ID
refain:
verse:
dont drink and drive thats a funny slogan
cause snoop dog records while hes tokin'
societys goin' downhill everyday
do you like society? say no way
harmony:
Refrain:

is this a rap song?

it sounds like it's about a contemporary situation. maybe you could call it "2003"?

How about "scrapbook" or "scrapbook of stuff" which is how you described it yourself. Sounds like a good title from here.

Hey Sean, i think the reason dm took it to be a rap song was because of the all the references to modern society from the perspective of a minor, which in my mind tells me it would probobly either rap, nu-metal, or punk. The snoop dog refence is what decided in my mind that this may be a rap song. I was obviously way off, but good lyrics nonetheless.

I have a close friend who a few months back came to me with the same question. My recommendation was that there is no replacement for "just doing it". The more you do it, the better you will get. Also, put idea's down somehow. On paper, on a 4-track, on a Radioshack voice recorder, multi-track, whatever. If you don't put the idea's down you will lose them eventually. Also, don't beat yourself up to have to finish a song. Either it's flowing or it's not. If it's not put down whatever you have and move on. I have four spiral notebooks of one-liners, one verse, a chorus, a chord chart, etc., that are all available should I need a piece. It's been amazing how often I have drawn on some small part that I written years before to finish a song today.

Good luck.

P.S. My friend now has finished four songs in the last 30 days or so.

I fully appreciate the "just do it". Fosters independant thinking and eliminates the reasons why it won't work prior to knowing if it will.

Frog boil came from the fact that you can boil a frog to death if you slowly turn up the heat. He will not jump out. If you throw a frog into hot water, he's out of there! Much like the decay you are depicting. I didn't say it was cool!

I took a standardized test today and after onee part of the test i had some great ideas, so i wrote 4 songs that are pretty good. I also wrote 4 songs the night before. It was weird I had no ideas and then like a million.

Call it...

"Zipper Fly"

One line refers to kids forgetting to zip their flies. This title would get people curious and make them want to listen to see what it was about. Whether they then continue to listen is another matter of course. Depends how good the music is, but at least it would grab attention, which is half the battle.
