Hey all,

I'm looking at purchasing one of these mixers www.carvinguitars.com/pro...?product=C2444U

Does anyone here have experience with this mixer (or Carvin mixers in general). Also there is USB and S/PDIF on this mixer as well. Would I be able to connect my M-Audio Delta 66 to it? How else could I take advantage of this connection?

Cheers!

Not sure if this helps, BH, but I'll try.

Although I've never had experience with that mixer (that's a LOT of mixer), a buddy of mine has some Carvin gear and it really is well made and reliable. Couldn't tell ya what the pres will be like, but I'm sure they are quite transparent.

As for the USB and digital ins/outs that looks like a cool feature. I use optical cable a lot (I like it...). These would be great or not depending on your sound card (although I think S/PDIF is limited to 44.1).

On the whole, I like Carvin products. That is a whole lot of mixer.....

Was I vague and rambling enough?

haha, ya about the same as my question I suppose.

I'm hoping that the USB will be for recording. This would give me a couple of extra channels.

They say NOTHING about it on the Carvin site. I'm pretty much ready to buy unless I get some real bad feedback in the next while.

Not sure if I like the staggered knob arrangement in the central section. Looks like it could be potentially confusing. Maybe if I saw it a little bigger it wouldn't be.

But yessir, you got mixer for days on end there. I could never find a use for all of it.

I guess I should explain myself a bit further. I'm picking up this mixer (or??) so that I can leave my studio semi-permanently connected. I'm tired of patching **** in all the time. I'm also taking this college course so I can get exposure and training doing live sound. I need the "tools" to learn all this properly. This mixer is only part of the plan.

My thoughts...

I'm thinking that I can take this mixer, a box full of mics and a Roland VS2480 to gigs and record them. "Them" being bands, artists, and conferences/conventions... that sort of thing. I figured that between this mixer and the Roland I could take on pretty much any gig within reason. My direction would be adding a video mixer to the equation.

Thats a good point. Hmmm... gonna need a good gooseneck light - lol

oh, and the channels go really fast around here.

OHL, OHR, Snare, H-Hat, Kick, H-Tom, L-Tom, F-Tom, Rm-L, Rm-R, Vox1, Vox2, Vox3, Vox4, Gtr1, Gtr2, Gtr3, Bass, Sampler L/R, CD L/R, Phono L/R

...thats 24 right there...

I plan to record mostly off the sub-groups most of the time.

anyways... blah, blah... what do ya think?

Actually, having grown up looking at big ol' desks (you'd love the one at Abbey Road - and no, I didn't get to play with it), that staggered arrangement is pretty standard. It makes sense to me.
I guess I'm just an old fashioned guy.

BH, I'm not sure if the USB outs will be a sum of all the channels or not. But with the 4 sub outputs you can simply not send the sub outputs mix through the main and then use the USB that was, and then direct outs of a couple of channels and that would give you 8 if the mixer works the way I think it should.

But ya, Carvin builds some pretty heavy gear. And they do have a rep for being dependable.
