You want to try my Virtual Muse software for me?

I think I told you guys about the idea several months back. I still have some things I want to build into it, so I still haven't put up a website dedicated to it, but I decided to throw it up on an old band website that I still keep around (mostly for storage purposes) and see if any of you guys wanted to play "unofficial beta testing" with me.

For those who don't remember or didn't see my original post, it's basically software that uses simple randomizations to help you think outside of whatever boxes you might be in musically. There's nothing overly amazing about it, but it's kinda fun, and who knows, it might spark an idea or two.

Here's the URL

www.mintpink.net/software/VirtualMuse.zip

Install it, use it, let me know what you think, and if you write any songs because of the ideas it might generate, DEFINITELY let me know, because I wanna hear them! :-)

I'll definitely try it. Last week at www.homemadehitshow.com we talked about similar software that's out there (mainly websites) and how you can really use it. It's best used to spark creativity and to add flavor to a song not to write one for you.

I'll look forward to trying it.

Now are you looking for true feedback, even if it's not all good, or will you take offense :)

Oh, I have pretty thick skin, so as long as the feedback is not downright mean, I want to hear it. If you think it's not useful you can tell me.

I don't plan on selling the software or anything, so I'm not out anything, but I guess if no one thought it was any good it would save me time of posting it for more people to try out! :-)

If you have ideas of how it could be better, I definitely want to know.

If you like it, I wouldn't mind hearing nice things about it, either. :-)

Basically, yeah, this software is NOT going to write a song for you. Not even close.

It's one and only purpose is to plant some (sometimes odd) ideas in your mind so that your brain starts thinking a little bit.

I've used it myself quite a bit, mostly for fun to kill a few minutes of time here and there, but I actually do use it for writing practice. When I'm not feeling very creative, I make myself write a couple lines of a song based on a suggestion it gives me. I've never used any of those lines in a REAL song, but the point is to write and write often.

lmao

Song Title Idea: "My Little Cinnamon Warthog."

Song Topic Idea: "Write about your dream to play quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers."

Really off the wall stuff, but it makes ya think. Try adding a random beat maker in there and you'll really be on to something.

random beat maker and chord progression maybe... that'd be awsome. :)

I like it, given that it would be shareware I think it would be great.

I'm interested a little in how it works. Mainly cause I'd really like the ability, as a user, to be able to add phrases or for example look for a song title with a particular word in it.

As it is it's great though and I'd definitely give it a plug at www.homemadehitshow.com if you go public with it.

A random beat maker.... sounds interesting. I've never done anything like that, but if I can figure out how to do it, I think I will.

I DEFINITELY love the idea of letting the user add word(s) to randomize titles around.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'd still love to hear more.

Well the other thing I like to use, similar to the phrase generator, is a tool that generates interesting adjective/noun combinations, again with the ability to add words.

For example I could input the word "Stone" then the tool could start throwing me combinations

Firey Stone
Hot Stone
Fleeting Stone
Soapy Stone

etc. etc. It's great for livening up some already wrtten lyrics

I recently had a song called Storm Black Indian Arch.

I had a story but it was about meeting under a tree, I used a phrase generator and came up with I met you under storm black indian arch. Just pressing the buttons, locking in on some words and finally I found something that worked.
