Midi Controller or a traditional keyboard?

Hi again everyone.
It's time to get some opinions again.
I need to create realistic sounding drum tracks.
Would that Line6 Keyboard/Interface thing be a good choice?
My plan is to hit the keys in real time while recording because its to damn time consuming trying to program fills that sound like Dave Lombardo of Slayer.
I guess my question is would i be better of buying a synth thats already loaded with sounds?
My main goal is to do drum tracks with whatever i buy, but will also do choir vocal effect stuff, hammond organ, sound effects. . . .
Thanks in advance
Hope this made some sense

There are those things with like 16 velocity sensitive pads on them...I'm not sure but they've always looked more appealing to use for electronic drums than a keyboard.

As far as the tradition VS MIDI I dunno...I would pick the MIDI because then you can always get more and more software and that means more and more sounds. I think they're also not as bulky.

If you already have a midi i/o you could always just got to best buy or something and get one of their 99$ Yahmahas that has midi i/o on it. Then again, I'm not sure if you can use it as just a midi trigger.

My Juno-D fits that bill. Lots of onboard sounds, with a bunch of drum kits, that sound pretty darn good.

There's also like 600 different sounds, all in different banks.

It also acts as midi controller, so I can input midi and use soft sounds, or just record the rompler sounds in the keyboard.

Price keeps coming down on those, now it's 500$, i think. I paid 650 for mine when they were new =/.

Are there any other keyboards that have onboard sounds but also work as MIDI controllers becides the Roland Junos?

I'd say most of them sport MIDI I/O. This will let you send midi data to a PC.

Even the low line yamaha and casio have MIDI I/O, I think.

Fer instance:

www.circuitcity.com/ccd/p...mp;cm_keycode=4

and

www.andysmusiconline.com/...sio-ctk720.html

Both those sport MIDI connections, and USB on the casio one.

So really there isn't much advantage except lower price range and simplicity/skinny size to the controller only keyboards?

For controller only keys, I'd suggest the MAudio Keystation, if you're looking for a full 88 Keys that is. www.musiciansfriend.com/p...ller?sku=703607

And on a side note; PJK, will those keyboards work as a midi trigger too, or will they record the keyboards sound into your midi synth tracks? I've yet to find an answer on this.

Nope, they will work as a trigger only. Most models you simply turn down the patches volume and it will send simple note on/off and velocity data to your application via the midi cable.

And on the controller's being cheaper, not always the case for a good controller. My Fatar actually cost more then most of my rack synths did.
