As ive posted before if anyone saw, i got a new mesa head, but ive been having trouble getting a cab. I have fender solid state amp though with an ext. speaker input, does this mean i can just use the speakesr without the amp adn plug my mesa in instead? if the ohms and stuff match up is it ok to just plug the head in there?

Dec 20, 2007 07:02 am I think that means you can plug an extra speaker into the solid state amp

Dec 20, 2007 07:04 am I think that the Ext. Speaker would be for you to run from that to a speaker, not to plug another AMP into it. It's not very often you see a Combo AMP that has an option to bypass the AMP for another AMP, maybe power more speakers than the 1 or 2 built in, but not replace the AMP powering them.

Dec 20, 2007 09:39 am Some amps will have a 'power amp in' jack, for just that. Most do not though.
If'n it were me, I'd run a new cable off the speaker inside that fender, and put a 1/4" jack on the end of it. Then, put your 50cal on top of the fender, but plug the speaker jack into your 50cal instead of the fender.
If you want to use the fender amp again, just plug the 1/4" jack into the ext speaker jack.
Viola!
Do be sure that the impedance is correct for both, and that you don't kill the speaker in the fender =). Solid state amps are very forgiving with imp mismatches, but tube amps are not as much. 50% either way isn't bad (isn't good either), but I wouldn't like 100% either way.
Also, remove the old speaker cable from amp and speaker. Replace it with your new one with a 1/4" on one end.
