What do you have to say about GT mics?

I have a GT66 and I LOVE it! It's great for vocals, great for acoustic guitar, great for just about everything I've used it for. I personally think it's a great value for the money even though it was by no means inexpensive. I haven't used any of Groove Tubes' other mics, but I'd bet their up to snuff based on my experience with the GT66.

Hey-- I had a post like this a long while back.. :-) I also have the GT66 and like it a lot. (Although I don't have a lot of experience with condenser mic's) I got a great deal on it at Guitar Center with a free pair of M-Audio SP-5B studio monitors (Normally $300!). The mic was $500, less then suggested retail price! It sounds really nice on vocals and acoustic guitar (It makes the guitar sound better than it actually is.)

Hey BlueNinjaStar, does your GT66 have a gold band around the bottom of the mic? All the pictures seem to show that there is one, but mine is the same color as the rest of the mic :-( Oh well...

I've noticed that too, but mine has no gold band either. Maybe the gold band is on some sort of anniversary edition of the mic or something like that. I got a really good deal on mine too. I think I paid $350 for it. Although I bought a Taylor guitar at the same time which helped with the bargaining power. I definitely thing the GT66 is an untapped resource. I bet a lot of people are thrown off by the list price, but as you and I can attest, they can be aquired for pretty good prices indeed.

Yeah, more people should check them out. I'm glad I'm not the only one without a gold band :-) I hear that some of the technology they use during construction is very advanced, above many other companies. For a tube microphone, the GT66 is rather low cost, really. Many times you can find it for less than $500, and way below the list price.

Remember GT is in the tube mfg. bussiness. so that is what allowed them to build a good tube mic for cheap. I have used a GT66 and liked it. Not as warm as my 319 but very good range and the sound I thought was awsome.
