I was thinking about buying a PC for recording purposes. I have a band and we just spent 300 to record with another band that we know. I want to do my own recordings and maybe record some other bands now. I have had a little expirience before and I the emu 0404 with my old pc that crashed. That is about all I have right now. But, what should I get in my pcfirst? I was going to buy a barebones pc because it issuch a great deal, but I kindaneed the protability of a laptop to go from the warehouse to my house. I dont really know what to do...

Dec 16, 2007 01:29 pm hey thanks. The barebones kit I was gunna buy was around 4. so I want one for pretty cheap. But i think the portabilty of a laptop would be really helpful. Any feedback is greatly appreiated. thanks
Dec 16, 2007 01:33 pm You wouldn't be able to use the 0404 with a laptop cause it's PCI, correct?
A laptop's going to be a bit more expensive for the same horsepower in a desktop, but if you tack on needing to buy another sound card to the cost of the laptop, portability will get a bit expensive...

Dec 16, 2007 02:17 pm sometimes if you buy two broken laptops you can cannibalize them ... I just put together a Dell M50 2ghz , 1Gig RAM for about $220... one laptop had a broken screen and the other had a fried motherboard...

Dec 18, 2007 03:56 pm ok well, I think I going toget this one. www.tigerdirect.com/appli...&CatId=2431
what else do ineed? It looks like it hs everything to make it run. And could I just plug a mixer right into the soundcard? Would that sound alright?
Dec 18, 2007 09:38 pm looks like it's a complete system. A couple warnings: many folks have had very little good things to say about Tigerdirect's rebate system.
Also, you'll probably want a real audio interface (with multiple inputs) to record a band though. Otherwise you have to mix down every mic you're recording to two channels to the line-in on the motherboard.
That'll cost you some bucks. The 0404 should get you going though.
