I didn't get the job

Didn't get the job at the bike place right by my house...not bummed about not getting the gig, but very disappointed by the stupid reason.

Apparently the answers to my personal questions lacked self awareness...meaning, to me, I didn't know how to answer "how would friends describe you" and other stupid questions like that.

They said I was technical fit and all that, but pass for that stupid reason...ha. Makes me laugh and pisses me off at the same time. That a company would actually base a decision for a technical role on such stupid criteria.

I gotta get some mentally-stored answers for dumb-*** questions like that so I don't have to think every time I'm asked...

I musta missed a previous thread.

For the "how would friends describe you" thing, just pick and choose from the Boy Scout list:

Trustworthy
Loyal
Helpful
Friendly
Courteous
Kind
Obedient
Cheerful
Thrifty
Clean
Brave
Reverent

I can't believe I still remember those after all these years!! Bahahahaa

It's just an easy out for them, because you can't really argue it. You just have to accept it and say, "oh well". To say someone lacks "self awareness" is almost the dumbest thing that I've ever heard. Not only that, highly capable technicians aren't typically sought after for their self-awareness, are they? "Well, I can't fix it for you, but I'm still feeling OK about it."

...it's brave THEN clean... geezz... :)

or

I do my duty to God and my country. I help other people at all times, and I keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and Republican. :)

I have a better one... the Federal Government wouldn't accept 3 years of my audio experience for a A/V technician job because they didn't "see how being in a band had anything to do with audio production." ...though they counted my feature movie... the job only wanted one year experience and I was literally 3 weeks short.

but yeah, it was probably an easy out for hiring a boss's friend.

Scout Oath (or Promise)

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

And ya Herb, ain't it funny how that kind of sticks with you for life. Even if you mixed up that last two, it still gets the point across.

That's a crappy reason.

Right up there is "overqualified."

Sounds like someone had a different reason that they couldn't say out loud;

like:

1. i'm scared of you (various reasons)
2. you're too old
3. i'd rather hire my nephew
4. i'd rather hire the attractive applicant (wink wink)
5. etc.

I wouldn't sweat it, you'd probably tire of their wishy-washy-ness after long anyways.

Small/mid sized companies are a pit of politics. Our place is full of it, and it's a trick sometimes keeping on the right side of everyone I interact with.

Yeah, I had that thought too pjk, but honestly, from knowing the place a bit, I wouldn't be surprised if that is the real reason. However, all of yours have merit as well.

It's all good, I have another interview this week for a job that pays less, but sounds better, and I would do work from my home office.
