Nov 16, 2007 08:22 pm christ! I can't find one OVER $500...
Nov 17, 2007 12:04 am Motu, Digidesign, RME, oh my!
"best" is actually a relative word for what you're asking excel. To what extent do you want to record? An entire band all at the same time? Only yourself? Two people? Do you already have a mixer with mic pre amps?
For example: do you intend to play a harp in the bathroom and have 8 condenser mics scattered around in the bathtub? Lol.
Give us some specifics about what you want to do and folks can give you better recommendations.
Because Zed didn't say it: welcome to HRC as well.
Nov 17, 2007 12:38 am Kenny, I'd like to see him record 8 condensers using a MIDI Interface :)
Nov 17, 2007 02:15 am Never underestimate the power of MIDI, Danielson.
and....
touche.
the "PC interface" threw me off... that COULD mean audio too, right? haha.
Nov 17, 2007 03:37 am i rock a used Motu midi express xt, it's got 8i/o and i've hardly ever had a problem with it...i think i paid $100 for it....before that i had the micro lite with 4i/o and it was USB....my rommie got it when i got the bigger one.
Nov 17, 2007 03:39 am oh and yeah, if you're looking for audio ins and outs, midi doesn't do that. it's an entirely different kind of recording altogether.

Nov 17, 2007 03:57 pm Right, MIDI is data only, telling the synth what note to play, how long, how hard, ect.
So for a midi interface, depends on what you want. Do you want a full keyboard with weighted keys? How about sliders, rotary knobs, drum pads?

Nov 17, 2007 04:32 pm Either a MOTU or the M-Audio Midiman USB midisport 8x8/S. Both are good and stable without any driver issues. I have used both and they wokr stellar. Currently using the M-Audio unit.
