Alright... this has been a question I've been meaning to ask for a while. What is the difference between a Parametric and Graphic equalizer and how are they both used?

I graphic equalizer has a specific number of bands that you can push and pull at set frequencies. A Parametric you can pick the frequency you wish to control and the "q" of the control, meaning who much affect it has an neighboring frequencies.

I do have an article around here somewhere about EQ's and the differences.

parametric is usually so much more precise. FrruityLoops taught me how to use one.

hit F9 and bring up your effects, choose the master channel (or whichever you wish) and insert a Fruity Parametric from the menu. just start tweaking the knobs while your song is playing back and watch the little line wiggle around and shape your sound.

i most always use a Fruity Para before I export a wav out of FruityLoops. It gives me the spectral control i need to get it *just right*,

Agree with Jamie, a parametric is easier and more precise for me during mixdown. Find the frequency I want to diddle with and then adjust the Q or bandwith of that center frequency and wallah! I do use a graphic for reverse curving my NT1's to take the harshness out them and make them more natural in a wave editor but that is a process of just applying that preset to the whole waveform. When I try to apply a graphic to anything that is "rolling" I make a mess and get frustrated.
