Its going to be awhile before they have anything the common market can use. I read a piece on them last week that said they are aimed at a different market for the moment. But they will eventually target the Intel and AMD market, but not for awhile yet. I'm waiting till near the end of the year when AMD releases the second gen quad. The price will drop like a rock once it hits.

Thats a race that can NEVER be won.

I spent about 3k upgrading my main PC toward the end of last year and within 2 months it was completely outdated.

Luckily unless your into Hardcore gaming or full on CAD/3D work then it's not that much of a problem.

Music production requires comparatively little grunt under the hood.

considering most music applications do not take advantage of parallel processing and nobody seems to be in a frenzy to do so... you're probably quite right.

Until mics get so high quality and so reasonable that somebody would want to mic a guitar cab with 32 mics... I really don't see music production ever requiring the biggest/baddest PC as compared to the gaming crowd.

Or when we start coming out with 400.1 surround sound.

Or is that an ignorant opinion? lol.

Yeah, it can never be won, but there are certain times where you are literally outdated that day.

I usually stay one step behind the curve just to save the expense, cuz going bleed-edge is just too damn expensive with often little actual gain.
