As far as ive heard people use chorus' is to double their vocals without having to actually sing (or rap) them twice, im guessing would use this alot in hip hop because it must be hard to rap two identical lines.

The real idea for using it like this though is that its not an effect, chorus' are basically a very quick delay (echo) of the original track that is a bit out of tune. The idea of using them to fatten vocals is that the slightly detuned slightly off time double will make it sound more "human" since in reality when you hear a voice its actually the combination of tons of reverbs of the sound from the source bouncing off different things around you. So what im saying in a very long winded way, is just dabble on the chorus until you can hear it making and effect, then back it off just a bit, keep the basic parameters very light and slowly mix it into the dry signal. In the end you shouldnt hear a "chorus effect", you should just hear the vocal being thicker.

Classicchorus VST has a preset for "Fat Vocal" or similar. Very good.

and by all means, don't put it on the whole mix....at least for the whole song.

The chorus pluggin should have come with some presets, try a few of those and I['m sure you'll find something that works. Otherwise there is no deads set settings to get a good vocal chorus.
