Kind of a cool list. I had no idea that some of these songs were covers. Green Manalishi by Fleetwood Mac - lol, can't picture that.

It used to make me smirk when some kid from the audience would come up to the band and say something like "Do you guys know any Billy Idol, like 'Mony Mony' or 'L.A. Woman'?"... <<smack>>

"Lucy in the Sky" by Shatner?? I MUST find a copy of that!!! HAHAHAHA

These lists must only be created for the sake of generating arguments. These lists are always more like "the top 100 *X* that we could think of off the top of our heads".

I mean look at the bands they're considering: Korn, Metallica, Dream Theater (2 or 3 times I might add!), Counting Crowes, David Lee Roth, Chicago, Staind, Guttermouth...I mean these bands don't deserve to be in the top-100 anything.

Except maybe top 100 bands that are great...

...for me to poop on.

OK so Dream Theater actually has some talent, but they don't belong in a top 100 covers list. Maybe in a top 100 songs that will make you want to quit playing the guitar list. Top 100 guitar solos that you'll never be able to play. Or Top 100 songs that will give you repetitive stress injury.

Oh man. See? Now I'm all worked up. Damn lists and their associated manias.

That video link wouldn't play for me, but I went to Google and watched it.

Now I have this compelling urge to go burn my clothes.

159. 'Driving South' - Stone Roses (Should be at least, top 20)

'Smoke On The Water' Number one???
Don't like that riff personally.

'Johnny B Goode' now there's a good riff!!
That should be number one.

Some I agree with...
Sweet Child O' Mine
Money For Nothing
Black Dog
Eye Of The Tiger.

I'd put these in there too...
I wanna be adored (stone roses)
Shoot you down (stone Roses)
Corpses (Ian Brown)
She bangs the drums (Stone Roses)

Now there's an interesting direction to take it Murphy: what's OUR favorite covers? I'll have to ponder mine...

Murphy was referring to the "top 100 guitar riffs" link I posted.

Some say there's a difference between a 'riff' and a 'lick'. What..ever. But I think it's interesting that "My Sharona" and "Don't Fear the Reaper" weren't mentioned in there.

And if you look at the songs in that list, most of them are rated on the guitar track as a whole, not a riff, ostinato, lick..

Riffs and licks???.

I'd say...
A riff is more of a focal point than a lick,
A lick is more like what you put between chord changes, spreading them around, with less direction.

No difference really!!

OK, now I'm pissed. How could they not even mention House of the Rising Sun?

I'm gonna have to peruse that list later, but I actually found a couple were they got the coverer and coverie backwards.

Well it's obviously a bogus list I'm not on it. LOL

I agree with some of it, disagree with some of it, but that's gonna happen on top list, can't please everybody.
