Hi, thanks in advance for any advice.
I'm setting up a home-studio situation basically for demo's and composing, nothing I'd really want to put out for mass distribution. I'm using a PC and an M-Audio Firewire 410 as my interface, i also have a small mackie mixer.
I've decided I'd rather go powered being that I don't want to spend extra cash on a poweramp right now, I'd like to have this setup be semi-portable and on a discussion I've had with some friends they stated that it might make sense to have powered speakers being that the power amps in there are designed to sound good with those particular speakers in theory.
Anyway, what do you recommend in the $200-300 range?
Also, i'm doing mostly rock, a decent amount of metal and plenty of electronic music, though I will be doing acoustic instruments. I'm not sure if I really want a seperate Sub-woofer in the system.

Jul 13, 2007 04:10 pm I've heard pretty good things about the Behringer Truths, though I don't know if the powered versions are under 300$ / pr.
Here's a 300$ pr of maudio, that seems to fit the bill, so to speak.

Jul 13, 2007 05:15 pm Hey, sorry about that, I was looking for the search bar and only found it after posting.
I'm considering the M-audio BX5A or even the 8A but i'll looking into the Samson, i'm also liking the Event stuff.
I would never own anything with the name Behringer on it. I've just heard/experience too much crappy gear out there with their name on it.
Is it logical to buy used speakers or is that too much of a risk with these types of speakers?
Jul 13, 2007 09:50 pm As far as used monitors go I've had great luck, I've found a sets of KRK KRoks, KRK RP5's, Event TR5's, and wharfedale DP8.2 monitors usually between $150- $250 or less. I think I found the events for $80. I hit the pawn shops regularly at least you get to check them out first there.

Jul 14, 2007 11:46 pm Hey, I got my son a pair of the M-Audio BX5a's and they are pretty good sounding for a small format powered monitor.
Jul 15, 2007 12:54 pm I got some wicked m-audio powered monitors for like $140 on sale at guitar center and they sound incredible. I need the little foam things though...
Jul 24, 2007 03:33 pm I've also heard some decent things about the Behringer monitors.
