Believe it or not, I just today installed XP Pro on one of my computers, my musikspeiler PC. I've been waiting and kinda' studyin' and learnin'.
I've installed XP on dozens of other's machines and had no real problems. But it's just been less than 8 weeks or so since I transformed my faster rig into a home recording setup under W98SE, and I wanted to get familiar with it.
And it paid off. The install went without a snag, in fact XP installed MS's GS Software Synth and my Delta 1010LT sucked that right in and I now have Windows Midi where I didn't in 98. I could play and record MIDI in MIDI Studio in 98, but I had no default MIDI. The mapper only saw my 1010LT Midi out which is not an instrument.
I am now equipped to use the newer and better software. Like Sonar or whatever.
As soon as I get another $275 I'll put XP Pro in the other PC. (My Gamenfunkspieler)

Jul 07, 2007 04:47 pm It's a big upgrade, XP, is, in my opinion, the best OS MS made to date, stable, fast...better than Mac in my personal opinion as well.
Congrats on entering the next generation...er, well, last generation actually, but you know what I mean, congrats :-)

Jul 07, 2007 06:58 pm Yeah fortymile, I can see it, now that you mention it.
I refused to own XP even though I had worked with it a lot on others' machines. (I build, repair, and upgrade PCs as a sideline to surfing the net)
I did an upgrade and kept my files and settings and then pruned the security, firewall, and update features WAY back.
I'm happy.
Ya' know, I downloaded the trial version of Sonar6 Producer Version from cakewalk, 56Mb, I think. When I ran it on my XP machine, it said it could not install because my PC did not have Windows NT installed.
I'll DL it again and,
"Tryyy, tryyy, tryyyyyyyyyyyyy,
Just a little bit harderrrrr."

Jul 07, 2007 07:35 pm thats...odd...because XP is actually NT5... literally... when it crashes thats what the Blue Screen says... :)
If you're up for something interesting I'm dinking around with Ubuntu Studio ...and though I havn't tried recording anything (my equipment is out on loan until monday) ...it is VERY nice as a desktop...
