yeah, i've got a friend who worked the call center here in nashville...he worked his way up past it pretty quick and complained nobody knew anything hardly...it's all script reading and typin' into a computer the problem, which then tells you what to say.

hell my roomate used to work in sales at dell, and he knows NOTHING about computers!! i'm still shocked sometimes on the questions he asks me about computers.

Then why did you buy it?

I run about 30 Dells at work and have nothing bad to say about them. Several of the new HP's have croaked HD's but nothing bad with the Dell's at all. And most of the are anywhere from 6 months to 3 years old.

i've mostly have had good experience with 'em aswell and it helps my good bud is a upper-level tech...but i just bought a junker 2350 and i must say...i've never had so much trouble with a motherboard before! i literally had to tell it there were usb ports on it! it has no clue there's an onboard soundcard there even though the driver's are all "working properly" according to XP so i decided to use an old beat up SB Audigy that has been in my closet for quite some time, and now it's not recognizing that either!!!

and here's where it get's twisted....in XP, all drivers are workin'...but in my audio control pannel it dosn't even give me an option to choose one of the TWO soundcards that are hooked up and "working properly"....wait, wait, it gets better!
if i open Sonar in it, the SB works fine (as WDM) but if i try to play an mp3, it says "no audio devise available, another application may be using it" even though Sonars not open at all....

so yeah, i'd rather play mp3's on this computer (it's my ugly internet whore), but am forced to load files into sonar to hear them!

arg!

Yeah, I've been using Dell exclusively all my life but all of a sudden I bought this computer and have had nothng but issues since day 1.
It's a rad computer but I've had to replace the hdd and now dell is sending a tech to my house to replace the motherboard. Maybe it's one of those that fell off the assembly line at dell and some disgruntled worker just picked it up and put it back in... lol
who knows...

I have heard Dell support is getting worse and worse by the day...Dell is going to way of Compaq and Packard Bell it seems from a lot of what I read.

You Also have to be aware that sometimes Level 1 supervisors are not allowed on the phone... like at Apple if you ask for the supervisor you are instead transferred to Level 2 which is usually in a different state.

Level 2 of course is given an awful lot of leeway in solving problems and can generally be assumed that they know whats actually going on... and some companies have a policy of "make the customer go away happy" ...two parts... 'customer going away' is their main goal... customer being 'happy' is usually the easiest way to achieve that...

Yeah, hence I've learned a very valuable lesson.
With apple using intel processors and extremely better services, why pc anymore?
After all, Macs these days are just pc's capable of more than just a pc... OSX tiger looks unreal too...

WTF is THAT statement based on? That's just a completely in accurate statement. PC has 10 times the software available for it and the computers are half the price...

Gimme a break...

No... Im done guys, sorry...

PC's dont have 10 times the software available anymore. The only thing PC's have that a mac doesnt is crap tech support and plentiful amounts of driver/virus/hardware problems...

Most of the operating systems are only partially operational when they're released anyways... junk

OK, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you sound like every other uninformed, brainwashed Mac-evangelist out there. PC ain't perfect, Mac ain't perfect, nothing is, but "After all, Macs these days are just pc's capable of more than just a pc..." is a rediculas and inaccurate statement that is very laughable.

You are right though, PC's may only have 4 times the software...my bad.

I'd never say Macs are bad, that would be inaccurate too, both OS's will do the job of computing plenty well...to say that either is light years ahead of the other is laughable.

Judging all PC's because of a couple experiences is something a kid would do...so I presume you are about 15-16 or so? I've been working in Information Technology for over a decade...get a grip, man...seriously.

Don't get me wrong, dude, I am not trying to insult or rip on ya, just trying to get you to be serious and look at the issue objectively...it's obviously got you hot and jumping to big conclusions clouded by your current anger. You had some problems, pisses me off when I have them too...but ya can't damn the whole lot of 'em...

That's OSism, and prejudice and OS profiling is WRONG! :-D

Dude...
Look up parallels and boot camp. Im not 15-16 years old, im not a mac fanatic, and my statements aren't inaccurate.

It sounds more like you're a brainwashed PC evangelist...

Anyhow, we just dissagree... Have a good day.

pffffft, I hardly evangelize PC's, there is no computer OS worth that kind of loyalty...it's only a friggin computer for cryin' out loud.

And yes, you are dead wrong. But hey, if you are cool with it, I don't care, it doesn't really affect me at all. I just get sick of all the "this rocks and this sucks" extremist viewpoints resulting from such silly topic. It screams silliness and immaturity in attitude to say anything "sucks" just cuz you don't prefer it.

...except for liberalism...

I will say this, I have heard from many folks Dell support is pretty lousy these days unless you are a corporate licensee. That doesn't make Windows bad, it makes Dell bad...BIG difference. Nothing wrong with bashing companies that deserve it, but bash the right one.

Crap...I missed all the fun again! See what happens when you actually have to WORK all morning?

That sums it up for me. I used to be a Windows guy, now I use a Mac to be more compatible with what I do at school. My next computer will be a Windows machine because I miss the abundance of software available to me...particularly in the audio department.

I don't see how some people can get so worked up about stuff like this...

I don't get it. The headline says Windows is $225 cheaper, but the example they give right underneath it shows Vista is $50 more.

They originally said it'd be cheaper with Linux, but that isn't how it ended up, it now costs $225 more.

Or something like that...

Ya, I got the add in the mail It was originally stated that the Linux unit would sell for way cheaper. Then the release happened and it was as stated at a much higher price since they apparently had to pay a third party('s) for driver support is what I have heard. Not sure how correct that is though.
