Grab a recorder and wait for a silent moment. Push record.

Our experience of silence is not the absence of all sounds, but rather a constant background noise. Therefore don’t record in a sound-proof room. Noises bring attention to silence.

I'd like to hear what your silence sounds like.
-
Send mp3s, compressed to 192Kbps. Note the exact date, time, and geographic location of the recording. Submitting a recording means that you agree to other people downloading it and using it free of charge.

Aim of the society is to
- - - - - -
increase the awareness of the fact that noise is a form of pollution which endangers ecosystems as well as human health
- - - -
improve the communication and co-operation between persons interested in silence
-
act as an interdisciplinary institution, world-wide, to disseminate quality recordings of silence and related projects

hey, come on now, play nice, jues, actually, I readit a while ago and found it quite interesting...think about it. My "silence" is actually quite noisy downtown...but not at home...kinda cool idea.

ive done mine...just sending it now

its interesting the possibilities you can have just recording nothing...i did four tracks of silence overlaid with a little reverb and some bouncy delay, touched it up in wavelab and addded a sample at the end!

not quite what they were thinking...but theres only one track there at the minute...

very cool... i think i'll take my mixer, a couple mics, and my MD (digital portable 2-tracker) downtown Hagerstown early some cold morning and capture the whisper of the cars putting by at like 3 AM. it's such an eerie sound... the "silence".
