I love Andrew Bird! I caught on to him with the album "The Mysterious Production of Eggs" and just got "Armchair Apocrypha" about a month ago.

Its kind of funny that he plays violin as his main instrument, and is a self-proclaimed professional whistler :) Not what you see in indie pop too often.

I just love book-smart songwriters. I like how he packs so many layers of stuff into his songs. I'd highly recommend anybody who likes intelligent pop to check him out.

I thought only John Sebastian, Rolf Harris, and Roger Whittaker were the only only professional whistlers...

He never listens to my stuff so why should I listen to his?

(That's supposed to be funny...see tony's thread.)

teehee Jim :D

I'll have to check out his live stuff. I've only ever listened to his studio stuff, which is very densely packed and intricately layered on the new album.

I love the 2nd verse from Sovay from the "...Eggs" album:

i was getting ready to consider my next plan of attack
i think i'm gonna sack the whole board of trustees
all those don quixotes in their b-17's
and i swear this time, yeah this time
they'll blow us back to the seventies
and this time
they're playin Ride of the Valkyries
with no semblance of grace or ease
and they're acting on vagaries, with their violent proclivities
and they're playing ride, playing ride
playing ride, ride, Ride of the Valkyries
[/quote]

You don't hear too many Wagner refrences in music these days...

I've been listening to him for awhile now. They play him here on The Current which is an MPR (Minnesota Public Radio) station. He has some very interesting stuff. We almost went to see him last time he was here but I had to miss it. He is indeed good with the looping and layering stuff. Killer mix of different styles.

Oh ya, and you forgot about Billy Joel in the profesional whistler thing.
