Mini Disc to PC Problem

Ok so I've done some research online but I still can't get this to work. Here's what happens. I have tons of mini discs recorded from my church. I plug the mini disc into line in on my computer. I press play on the mini disc and like magically sound comes through my speakers of the song. But there's no program or anything open that's playing it which is kinda weird but...I have Cool Edit Pro and Audacity that I want to try to use to get these songs on my computer. I've tried changing up the settings and device orders but still I can't get the software to recognize the signal. But I am positive its going to my computer cause it plays out of my speakers but I just can't get it into a program. Some detailed instructions on how to change the settings would be great. Thanks a lot.

Hello there. You dont need a program to play sounds on the line in. Its just that, a hardware line in that connects to you speaker output.
The problem you are having sounds like you have not set up the software to your sound card. You would need to go into your setup of the recording software and point it to your sound card.

I see. Well I'm sure someone who uses cool edit will be around soon. In the mean time you really should take a look through the softwares help section. I'm not trying to give you a hard time or anything but that is a very basic thing and will most likely be in there. In any case you get a free bump with this response for someone else to see it. Take care!

Determine the sound device in use on your computer, then in Cool Edit look under Options > Device Properties, then make sure that device is selected under the Wave In and Wave Out tabs.
