Loudness Wars during the super bowl?

guys

i can't stand it. every commercial is a completely different volume--super quiet then super-super loud, etc. corporate america has just gone officially INSANE.

is there some way we can publicize this issue? what are they thinking? are they completely retarded? how can they even ... don't they know it causes instant road rage?

commercials are ALWAYS like that, louder than the show they are played during and louder than each other...I stopped shopping at Menards just cuz of their loudness issue years ago.

Funny, as I was typing this I heard a Menards commercial in the other room!

The Snickers commercial was awesome...and GoDaddy's always are... :-)

I begrudgingly turned down the TV volume at the behest of my wife. It was one of those damn commercials that tipped it.

We've had a good laugh at a few of them, mostly the goofy Bud Light commercials. Like the auctioneer wedding and the "imitation dalmation" one. Oh and the Blockbuster commercial early on where the rabbits in the pet store were using a real mouse as if it were a computer mouse.

I cant remember any others right now...maybe beer #7 will help jog my memory.

Oh the coke commercial that was a take on San Andreas where he was helping everybody out.

See, beer # 7helped after all!

commercials arent always like this on network tv, db! some cable channels have a problem with it, but it's only certain channels and certain products. today, there's a problem during every break, and on the biggest show of the year. it makes no sense. couch rage is being caused!

i liked the axe/bud light one. but i've missed a lot of commercials, as i cooked a lot during the first quarter.

the axe one was pretty funny...

and yes, at least around here we always have louder commercials, I've grown used to it...and actually I can say I haven't noticed it tonight at any unusual level...

I can say though I notice Rex Grossman sucks.

if you didnt notice any louder commercials, my theory on broadcast limiting is not complete. i don't know where the limiting is occurring. here in los angeles, it was super-obvious. couldn't watch the channel without a remote in hand, and i had to move through EIGHT LEVELS of volume (sometimes six, sometimes eight) all through the game with my remote. it was that incredibly bad. never seen anything like it, anywhere.

oh, i think my favorite commercial might have been the 'robert goulet comes into your office and messes up your stuff' one. possibly because i once came up with that idea too. in my version it was alice in chains, though.

if you didnt see the commercial, goulet appeared when your energy waned and took advantage of you. the guy eating emerald nuts, though, was protected because he was alert. goulet ascended to the ceiling like a spider, and waited.

brilliant.

I think I liked the Snickers one where the two accidently kissed and then had to do something manly so the tore hair off their chest, it cracked me up.

I didn't watch the last minutes, the game was boring by then and I was tired from a loooooong weekend...so I may have missed a couple good ones.

i missed the snickers one, but i heard about it. good idea. seems the best doritos commercials lost, though. they played the two worst of the four.

the best were definitely the mountain climber, and the guy trying to catch a mouse, available at the doritos website. there just was no contest. the other two, the ones i saw during the game, were weak.

im wondering if i just missed the other two. if they didnt get played, that's just pathetic.

Actually, I change my vote, my favorite I think was the spoof on Grand Theft Auto where the guy walks around doing good deeds and all that, I think it was for Coke...not sure, which means it was a horrible marketing move, but the message of the commercial was cool and the animation was pretty dern good.

I don't recall the mountain climber, I'll have to go see that one.

yeah... my truck won't start and I was mysteriously puking my guts out... probably food poisioning...

but I think the goulet was the most off the wall one... GTA was good...and I liked blockbusters mouse one mainly for playing to nostolgia using familiar characters...

Heres a little inside scoop:
Network commercials have a typical peak that they tell the companies to use. Thats why most of the larger companies commercials sound pretty good.

Local commercials are more ghetto, almost nothing is enforced besides content, and its played live. Here they have audio compressors on all of the channels to try and keep it at a uniform level, but its a little whacky some times and doesnt catch it at first.

Yeah the GTA = coke. I've seen that one in movie theatres for about 2 months now, its gettin really old to me :P (I end up at a movie date about 2 days a week , what can I say :D )

The GTA one was a little flawed, they could have made some aspects a lot more like actual gameplay :P I guess that just comes from a fanboy though.

I like the GoDaddy commercials myself as well. Danica Patrick rocks as well with GoDaddy. I just got sucked into watching a load of them from forty's link to the Goulet one.

neofic, yeah, i noticed it's always the local ones. however, last night it was all sorts. even big companies, and especially network ads themselves, for tv shows.

Snickers pulled their ad due to pressure from gay activists that said it promoted anti-gay harrassment.

What, was there a rash of incidents where mobs would find a gay guy and rip out his chest hair?

the pulling of the snickers ad was silly. if anything, the ad makes fun of that sort of guy, the sort that's all paranoid about that kind of thing. besides, there may always be humor regarding these issues, and that might even be a good thing.
