I never cared much about my cell phone, but, given flame and myself are in the ringtone biz I figured I should probably have one that can play 'em...
This is fun!
I have different tones for people, my wife calls and it plays "She's not There", Noize calls it plays Tubular Bells, I got Rocky playing when it's my dad. Different pictures pop up with different people and stuff...and it has a 1.3 MP camera that actually takes pretty damn good pictures...
Of course I needed the bluetooth headset and all that too...and that actually sounds better than the phone itself and my phone has as much memory as my computer do RAM...1GB.
I guess my phone is my new toy for a while...

Dec 28, 2006 01:31 pm Yup, new phones are nifty. Wife just has the Razor but I love the BT headset feature and applying pictures to address book entries. Good times indeed.

Dec 28, 2006 08:08 pm Tubular Bell's ya that rocks. I've had the original and TB 2 playing in the car lately. WE are actually using TB 2 for the sound track to the 2006 scout movie this year.
Yep, phones rock. Razr V3M with a hotrodded software package for me. Bluetooth of course. And ya the PC software for the phonebook and calendar is there as well.
Tuna just got a new one last night as well. He figured he'd try an LG since some of his friends have had good luck with them. He got the VX8300 with a bitter camera then mine and it does almost all the same stuff as my Motorola. Its got little stereo speakers and the like on it. Funky lookin thing. He doesn't go for the extras though like bluetooth and whatnot. He's gonna write his own ringtone and I'll shoot it up for him. That should be interesting.
Dec 28, 2006 08:12 pm Now when you call, Noize a Monty Python sound clip comes up that says "Nobody expects the spanish inquisition"...I also got "now go away or I shall taunt you a second time" and "bring out your dead".
Still looking for "I fart in your general direction" though...

Jan 12, 2007 10:17 am Yeah, I wish I could do that.
I have an LG Chocolate, the USB plugin is limited ONLY to my music directory, and I cant set a song as a ringtone... Kinda annoying. Im having to send stuff via media message from my computer to the cell phone, and pay something like 50 cents each time.
I'm just waiting for someone to crack the jailing on it and let us access the whole phone.
Jan 12, 2007 06:14 pm i just got the vx8300 for christmas. actually i got the razr, but i then researched it online and discovered a lot of problems. my mom is taking her new razr back as well--battery doesn't even last through a whole day for her (my main complaint as well. tiny, tiny battery). the vx8300 is nice, other than its poorly-designed menus. that's nothing new, though. seems as if every phone on the market has a head-slapping 'why did you design it that way!' kind of thing going on. little menu problems that make life miserable.
bluetooth is great, though.
noize, are you guys on verizon? i'm not sure how to create my own ringtones because verizon makes it difficult for you to do that. most i have been able to do is to record snippets with the audio notepad then send to myself as a ringtone. such recordings are more quiet than a direct in would be.

Jan 12, 2007 09:10 pm I've had my razr for almost a year now and it is the almost the best phone I have had. It is more durable then I thought although not as tough as my other Motorola's have been. But I haven't had alick of battery trouble or software trouble either. I think Verizon is using differant software then most and I am using a beta version of the software so taht might make a differance.
Tuna just got the VX8300 and loves it. We are going out to get 1 gig memory sticks for them this weekend as well.
But for those of you wanting to avoid the ringtone delema try this. I haven't tried the beta version but have been using the older versions for awhile and they work great. www.tonethis.com/

Jan 12, 2007 09:23 pm As well I think the version of ToneThis in Cakewalks Pyro 5 has a compensator for the low volume level. I know I boost everything before I send it to ToneThis as it does as well at least in the 2.X versions seem to be a little quiet. I'm going to try the beta 3.0 tonight and see if that fixes it. Otherwise I got a download ticket for Pyro 5 for $19.00 from Cakewalk. If you own any Cakewalk products you might be eligible for that price as well.
Jan 12, 2007 09:27 pm I dunno about your phones, but I just make mp3's, put them on a MicroSD memory card then slide that card into my phone and download 'em. I juse make my tones in Sonar like everything else...then encode them to mp3 with WaveLab.

Jan 12, 2007 09:33 pm Ya, depending on the software of the provider you can or cannot do that. I can do the same as dB, but again I attribute that to the software version I am running on my phone. I haven't tried it with Tunas phone that way yet though.
Jan 12, 2007 11:47 pm i dont think i can get mp3s into my phone unless i buy a memory card. verizon, i think, disables any USB transfers between the phone and your computer.

Jan 12, 2007 11:49 pm Anyone ever tried Pyro 5 for ringtones ? I haven't delved into that part of it yet .

Jan 13, 2007 01:21 am Hue, read my posts above. Yes, Pyro 5 does ringtones and uses the above mentioned ToneThis software converter. There is a link to the ToneThis application that is free, and can be upgraded. It does wallpapers and such as well.
forty, as dB stated you simply load the mp3's onto the card via a card reader. They are cheap now, like $19.00 or so for one that will do a few different cards. SD being the most popular right now. And all the micro SD cards come with and adapter to get it into an SD slot. So you would be good to go there.
Jan 14, 2007 06:58 am Make an HRC for cellphone browsers and I'll post while I take a crap.
