Is a Line 6 TonePort UX2 enough?

I have a Toshiba Satellite. It is a 600 dollar laptop, nothing fancy. If I get a Line 6 Tone Port, will that be enough to make basic songs with my guitar and my roland td6 drum set. I am not trying to make anything professional, just purely fun stuff. I just dont want to waste 200 dollars if it wont even do what I want. Thank you.

It will allow you to record 2 tracks at a time. If that is all you need, and it kind of sounds like it. Then the Line 6 unit will work out just fine. I use mine frequantly even though I have other higher end multi-channel units installed as well.

You can record a basic drum track for a guide, then go back and while it plays back you can record the guitar. Then go back again and re-record the drum track to your liking.

Can I record more than 2 tracks if I do it seperately? Also, is the included software enough to make a simple song and transfer it to a CD. I wont care if it sounds ammatuer, I just want to make some of my own CDs of songs I like to play.

depending on the speed of your computer , you can record multiple tracks . On an old PII i have i can have about 12 tracks with 2-3 plug ins per song running with out a problem . the tone port comes with a lite version of Ablition ,so you're set with a program right off the bat.

Yep,

you can record 2 at a time, but you can work with more than that. Ableton Live may have a track count limit, but it's probably higher than you'll need. Like Noize said, you can keep adding tracks to what you've already recorded.

You'd use A-Live to track and mix your song, then mix it down to a 16 bit / 44.1khz stereo wave file. Then you'd use a CD burning software to create an audio CD, using the wave file as the source.

Course, you can get a lot more complicated than that, but that's the jist of it.

TonePort even comes with a special Line 6 edition of Ableton Live so you can start making great sounding recordings as soon as you open the box![/quote]

there you go =).

Hey I recorded this song with toneport and live. LIve is the best recording software out there, all guitars are completely modded through live. The drums were sequenced with live as well. This was my first attempt, nothing really major.

Yeah I plugged everything straigh into tone port, no amps or di boxes or anything, just straight in. Thats probably why the vocals sound horrible. Not to mention my technique sux. I recorded the acoustic in two different sittings, so I forgot the settings I had for the first recording. The drums come straight from abletons sampler, I just bought a copy of reason, so we will see how that goes. But anyways toneport rocks!
