Routing problem with my Delta 44 in audacity and native B4

Hello,

Quite a newbe (if not a dummy) seeking advice.
I have a delta 44 and plugged the H/W out 1/2 in my Harmon Kardon.
I selected the WaveOut 1/2.
If I choose Analog out 1/2 in Native B4 for left/right no problem, sounds come out.
In audacity I select play with M-Audio 44 1/2 and fine it can play back my previously recorded track.
I can even play over the track and hear both sound mixed but impossible to record anything in Audacity.
What Input should I select in Audacity, even choosing M-Audio 44 1/2 doesn't record anything from the B4

I must be doing somthing stupid here...

thank you
JS

Well the B4 is a VSTi synth. IT doesn't get recorded like a normal audio input would. It needs its midi track to tell it what to play and when. I am not sure how Audacity works, but you should be able to mix it down once you are finished recording.

So to record you need to record the midi track which in turn will be assigned to the VSTi synth track ie:B4 or whatever synth you are using. Be aware the in Audacity and several other applications some VSTi synths will only run each instance with one sound. So if you need another track of the B4 synth then you must create another track to play through and record.

Thank you for your answer.
Based on your information I did a research on the net and realized Audacity doesn't even support midi recording or editing so it won't work using that software.
You see we have no experience at all with midi and the reason why we dable with midi is to use B4, M-Tron and VSampler in our recording because we really like those sounds...

We plan to take the jump with Sonar but not immediately; I may have a deal in the next month or so for a cheap Producer 5 as the 6 is out.

I have got another question, would it be possible to use the output 3/4 of my Delta 44 and physically routing it back in Input 3/4 to finally get a recordable wave input in Audacity?
Would that introduce so much lag as to be impossible to add some mellotron or B4 on a previously recorded set of tracks?

thank you

If you go to the Delta control panel and open the Patchbay/Router tab you will be able to route the signal internally and avoid any cables going in and out. In the H/W Out 3/4 click the H/W In 3/4 button.
Now go to Hardware settings tab and make sure in the ASIO Options section that you have the box unchecked for the Disable audio app use of moniter mixer and pathcbay/router.

This will allow you to route the signal out the 3/4 then assign the in 3/4 as your input source on the track you wish to record it to. Then you will be all set.

I tried routing via the Patchbay/Router tab and strangely no sound came out; even with the disable audio app... unchecked. The only way to have some sound was by going externally from Out 3/4 into In 3/4 selecting in the H/W Out 3/4 the WavOut 3/4
However as expected I got too much lag it won't be a solution. I guess we have no choice but to learn how to do it the right and hard way using a midi bouncing to track.
Audacity won't help us here as it doesn't support midi recording.

Maybe its now time to have a closer look at Sonar

thank you for your help

You need to make sure and arm a seperate track to record and assign its inputs to the 3/4.
