DALLAS (Sept. 27, 2006) -- Flamboyant Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens attempted suicide by overdosing on pain medication, even putting two more pills into his mouth after fire rescue personnel arrived.

A Dallas police report released Wednesday morning said Owens told rescue workers "that he was depressed." The report was first released by WFAA-TV.

The rescue worker "noticed that (his) prescription pain medication was empty and observed (Owens) putting two pills in his mouth," the police report said.

The worker attempted to pry them out with her fingers, then was told by Owens that before this incident he'd taken only five of the 40 pain pills in the bottle he'd emptied. The worker then asked Owens "if he was attempting to harm himself, at which time (he) stated, `Yes."'

Taking 5 painkillers is more of a terrific way to spend a Saturday night rather than an attempt to kill oneself. Hell, throw in a J and some gin and you've got 50% of my weekends of the past 5 years hahaha

Nature has a way of preventing people from overdosing on oral pain medication...its called vomiting. Not that and OD impossible, but difficult nonetheless.

If T.O. hasn't had his football coffin nailed shut yet, then this stunt at least drives yet another rivet into that pine box. I bet Parcels was overjoyed that his Prima-Donna reciever was in the papers again.

I'm an athlete with a rare gift, I'm a millionaire, I've got fame and notoriety. Boo-hoo, I'm so depressed that I think I'll get high on 5 painkillers and call it suicide. Maybe he's just generating some more material for his next book.

If i read the article right, he took 5 of the pills all together, before his suicide attempt, so when he tried to od he took 35 pills.

hmm, at first I read it like tad, then after loki made his point, i think he may be correct.

my question is, why was there a rescue worker at TO's house? Did he try and commit suicide and then have second thoughts and call 911? or did they just show up for the heck of it?

but honestly, this guy needs help, he's needed it for a long time.

most likely it wasn't a real suicide attempt. He got depressed, tooka bunch of pills, and called 911. Most "suicide attempts" aren't really such. I mean really, if the dude wanted to kill himself, he would have done it. There was most likely some sort of subconscious desire to live that prevented him from killing himself. It's like an attempt by cutting yourself. If you really are bent on killing yourself, you;ll do it. It won't be an attempt. Just my two cents though.

waiting for the news conference before i start working on my freelance assignment here, i discovered an audio-related question.

fox news just screwed up and played, for a few seconds, one of the 'standby' feeds--colorbars on hold for incoming video. it said:

fox news
-18dBf
and then some other crap

what does the -18dBf thing mean? i was talking to a friend who's making a film soon about sound for film and broadcast, and i was explaining how limiters set a ceiling appropriate for broadcast. i said it was probably close to zero db. and i said that when those 'annoyingly loud' commercials sometimes come on cable channels, that those commercials are using a different, louder limiting scheme than the network programming is.

how wrong am i about all this stuff? does the -18Dbf mean that the fox ceiling for limiting is -18 db? or am i way off with this? i've been wondering about this ever since i began noticing these volume fluctuations on cable between certain commercials...

looks like it wasn't a suicide attempt after all, i bet he was gettin' f#$*ed up and just took a few more than he should have, his g/f saw him all messed up and called 911, and in his f'ed up state of mind, when they asked him if he was tryin' to hurt himself, he said yes....he now says he dosn't even remember sayin' that (understandable)....so yeah, looks like a one person party gone bad....'if one feels good, two must feel better'....rule #1 know the drugs you're taking! sheesh.

According to him...lots of conflicting info so it all depends on who you listen to...or who you choose to believe. Terrell, well, not a trustworthy, honorable person in my book, but then, I don't care if he tried or not really, I just found it an interesting story.

a few years ago when I was actually studying psych, it was a general assumption that many suicides were actually self mutilations that got out of hand...

I can think of 7 people I know off the top of my head that either, cut, OD'd, or shot themselves. Only the ones who shot themselves were wanting to die and only one was successful... both used shotguns at point blank with buckshot. The one that was successful actually had a good reason to want to die, as he was terminal with skin and prostate cancer.

I was too, I watched part of 20/20 with my wife last night who was a much bigger fan than I. Personally, while I feel horrible for his window and his two young children, I am tired of exploitation of his image and family right now and find it sad that Barbara Walters (who I find to be scummy) uses the tragedy for her own ratings and income.

Did anyone hear the interview with his publicist?

She says "...when I see a man of his statue..."

i haven't seen any exploitation, though i didn't see the walters interview. she is scummy. but the news coverage seems to be fair and good. people genuinely care about irwin, and i've seen that reflected in the news.

Most of the news has appeared fair, I agree with that, just too much of it.

All I know is I'm watching my FF team news and switching him out if they determine he isnt fit to play. I think I need to dump him and pick someone else out of the few scrubs left un picked.
