Hey Melty,

SUNLIGHT: I liked the song - I kept waiting on a drum track? Only negative I hear is during the acoustic lead when things get outa sync a bit. From a production standpoint I hear this tune really kicking in with drums, guitars and such. Don't know if that is what you had in mind. The production of Sunlight here is fine.

However, that, in my mind, is a positive, Melty. I think Sunlight stands on its own as a song the way it is. I could hear several different directions, but this version is a good song!

ANTHEM OF THE FEW: Although I'm not necessarily qualified to critique a song leaning more to the metal side of things - according to my 17 year old Mr. I know everything about music and you SUCK Son -
I liked the variety and the changes in this song . Good lead work. The morph at around 5:30 was an example of what I would have like to have seen earlier in the song - different textures and colors. Does that make sense? I was tempted to stop listening to the song about 2 minutes in because it was just one metal riff after another. But - at around 5:30 - it got cooler. IMHO I would like to hear some of that "color" earlier in the tune. Another point --- you got heavy compression here? The volume level rises and falls a great deal.

I'll review Pleasure is Relief in a while. That 17 year old know it all has a football game!

I think the two non-metal songs are fine. I am a pure metal head myself so while not listening to "softer" music all that much I did like the 2 songs the overall production was fine.

The more of a "metal" song was lacking in the heavy department but that might just be me as well as I like a heavy guitar sound. But the guitar sound you got fits the song well and the vocals workd as well.

How long have you been home recording for?

On Sunlight the only thing I can hear that could use a little work would be the vocal. Just adding the smallest pinch of reverb will help settle it into the mix better. The other thing is possibly compressing the bass a little bit to even it out. It kind of comes and goes from soft to punchy.

On Pleasure is Relief I like the garagey sound of the drum kit, kind of cheap but cool at the same time. It fits well with the twangy guitar rif going on. The lead vocal could use a little boost, not much. Just make it a bit punchier. During the ya ya chorus part I would maybe add some extra vocal parts behind it to help give it a differant sound. Otherwise the softer bassline fits good here.

Anthem, the bass and guitar sound pretty good. Bass could maybe use a little punch but not much. The guitars might be a little mid heavy and that could be what is causing the drums to not sound very good. I would try to find a way to mellow the hgih mids on the guitars and compress the daylights out of the drums, then a touch of reverb on the drums to give them some body. The vocals could use a littel something to thicken them up and some reverb as well.

i really dig the song sunlight. it's just a really well written song. it's easily a good enough song to be on the radio, it's just itching for some more production. it definately sounds like it could use some drums, and a thicker sound especially in the chorus, so i agree with dono. it could be a really rockin song with a heavier, more established sound. (not heavy as in heavy metal, just more sound, if that makes any sense).

as for your singing, you've got a great voice that fits perfect with the song...when you're in your middle and upper registers. there are many points where the melody takes you a bit deeper, and it sounds unnatural and not nearly as good. but most of it sounds really great, it's got a great smokey tone and an open, clear sound. i'd also really like to hear you take it up a notch, intensity wise, in some of the later refrains and verses.
