What exactly is the Switchable 10dB preattenuation pad switch on alot of different hardwares used for??

Sep 05, 2006 12:15 pm It allows pro and consumer gear to work together more easily...the pro gear can dumb itself down to consumer levels if need be.

Sep 06, 2006 10:07 am So, what is it used for. How do I know whether I should use it or not??
Sep 06, 2006 01:57 pm it's used for recording really loud sorces...if you're clipping, use it......i don't think i've ever had to use it, but say you throw your mic behind a jet engine, then ya might need it....it just reduces the volume by 10db.

Sep 06, 2006 02:03 pm I have a LDC that has a -10db pad on it. I need it when I'm miking a kick drum. too much signal for an LDC without it.
But if you're referring to hardware components, then if you have a certain external component, and it puts out +4db signal, then you can change your device out input +4db signal. Similarily, you can set your device to match a -10db signal as well.
Just a level switch, so things match up.

Sep 07, 2006 07:18 pm I have used it when trying to get an LDC close to a guitar cabinet. It also helps with very loud vocalists.

Sep 08, 2006 01:23 am Aye, i generally use it for kick drum too, pretty handy.
Sep 08, 2006 03:39 am Due to my vocal "style" ;-) I used it on occassion. As mentioned above, its very useful for giving you a good cut in volume levels without loosing the characteristic of the MIC.
Very useful indeed.
Also, my Delta has this feature too I think - never used it there tho. I did use it on the output of the Delta tho for some reason (which I cannot recall) in the past...
