The Croc Hunter Died!

Crikies!

A stingray stung him right in the heart...now, while that is really sad, Croc Hunter was an awesome series, and I , along with all his fans, mourn his loss, exactly how hard does a stingray have to hit you to pierce your chest and get your heart!

Well Raymond will tell you they are much stronger then you think. Although they are very dosile creatures for the most part, I suppose he was getting maybe a little too friendly. But I have seen people swim with them and hang onto them for a ride, so I dont quite understand what happened.

But indeed we found out early today as it was all over myspace and Tuna of course is on there 24/7 so he came out and informed me shortly after it hit the newswire.

But indeed, I loved his shows as did all my kids. You always wondered when he would get bit or something, but he rarely seemed to be worried. Acting I suppose.

I owned a stingray for a while, it would swim with my hand, eat out of it...let me pet between it's ears...hell, it was a very dosile creature.

He musta really pissed that one off.

Oh totally, it was a question of when, not if, but still sad.

Oh ya, I think most of the morbid peeps in the world were just waiting for it. But I agree, sadly when you do that kind of thing eventually something bad is going to happen. But I am pretty sure he knew that. But indeed, what the heck could he have possibly done to piss one off that baddly?

According to the Australian news there have only been 2 recorded stingray attack fatalities, ever.

Now the government is contemplating a state funeral for steve.

Gutted thoough, I would have liked to have gone to the Australian zoo and seen him.

The article I read on CNN.com made it sound like the stingray was partially buried on the sea floor, he swam over it and startled it. In a defensive maneuver, it whipped its tail up and the tip struck him in the chest. The article likened it to being stabbed with a dirty knife. That had to be a terrible way to go. But at least he went doing what he loved.

THe irony of an animal lover like Steve Irwin (who campaigned against crocodile farming etc) should end up meeting his maker via an animal !!

Indeed, he COULD Have been pissing it off. But, it could have been an accident...it appears it jabbed him and unfortunately, it was in his heart.

Bizare to say the least. I liked him and always laughed at his show. I recall him going to a local tribe one time for an antidote to a poisionous bite he got from a snake...always though he was a bit invincible...just goes to show.

He'll be missed tho...RIP Steve.

There were nine stingray 'attacks' in Southern California yesterday. I'll repeat that....YESTERDAY. Obviously, they stingrays here are nothing like the big nasty brutes in Australia. Must be the phase of the moon or something making them agressive.

My son went back packing in OZ and saw Steve's zoo.Teasing crocs holding your baby is a bit risky, makes good tv,and the stingray attack has been filmed so we've got that to come. There was a snake catcher on a similar show but he's dead now too.(snakebite) The moral of the story is 'stick to what you know'

I watched the video of the bear guy that met his end by a grizzly. Was quite a challenge, to keep sympathy, as his last day's video footage was 'Nobody should be camping in bear country like this, especially where I am, in the thick brush'.

Quite a moving piece, they had audio of the attack, but they won't release it. The videographer heard it, and chose not to put it in the documentary. He didn't want it to turn into a 'snuff' film.

I'm thinking they won't release the film of Steve Irwin, out of respect for his family.

One of his shows was on Animal Planet last night, about penguins.

Rest well, Steve.

oh...actually, i believe the stingray video will be released. steve always wanted people to keep the cameras rolling, even if he was in danger. it was like his prime directive. i heard talk on this--its not as unlikely as it first seemed.

the 'grizzly man' movie was incredible. i didn't think i'd like it. but then i became captivated by this weirdo (even though i didnt like him at first). and the way the film was put together really kept me coming back.

The grizzly man movie was really good. The croc hunter though, terrible way to go if it was him spooking the thing... That does indeed suck. Problem is with any job people stop paying attention and get comfy, and thats when mistakes happen.
