I am trying to achieve a deep thrash metal lyrical style with my voice. I have the sustaining power and everything but my voice just sounds too much like a teenager for my taste. I'm trying to get a more adult sound. I know there are processors which can alter pitch for correcting but I'm not sure that will do the job. I want something that could make my voice sound lower in a more mature sort of way.
Does anyone know of any processors or plug-ins that do this?

Aug 29, 2006 09:24 pm I just saw a pluggin a couple weeks ago. Not as fancy as V-vocal or Anteres but it worked pretty well from what I read.
I think it did almost the same as my V-Vocal will do in not only adjusting pitch and formant but doing the gender thing as well. In V-Vocal I can twist the gender to take a kids voice and make him a gorilla or take a baritone and make him a little whiney girl.
I'll take a quick look and see if I can remember were the heck I saw it.
You might try a search on KVR as well.

Aug 29, 2006 09:53 pm using close proximity effect on carbon mics was known for that characteristic..
other than that... for metal vox... more gain... add gain until you can't find a way to add more...
but most growlers/screamer I know use proximity effect, cupping the mic, and gain as much a they can... mainly because if you do that at a useable volume natually they'll cough up blood :)
Aug 30, 2006 10:43 am lol, I noticed that Melty just put up a thread about V-vocal for maturing a voice. I looked up V-Vocal myself and it didn't even mention the ability to really mature a voice or change gender, but you say it can do it Noize. I will look into it, I could use a good version of Sonar anyway aside from this LE.
Zek, I will give that technique a shot. I know it can work well for growlers, but I am straight out yelling like the style of TestAment or Slayer. I'll see what I can do.
Thanks.
Aug 30, 2006 10:46 am I forget the names, but there are a couple vocal processors out there that have "formant" control, the "formant" of a voice is what gives it gender specific tones such as more masculine or feminine...I have only heard a couple that I thought were passable...
It can be done, but it may be easier and cheaper to just wait until you mature :-)
Aug 30, 2006 10:48 am lol, hey I dont have that kinda time, but I do have alot of money :)

Aug 31, 2006 07:16 pm Yep, with V-Vocal it requires using both the pitch and formant controls. You simply drop the pitch and then adjust the formant to give a deeper tone.
Again, its not the best for doing to a solo vocal but it will work in a pinch.

Sep 02, 2006 06:09 pm Try 25 years of beer and cigarettes. It certainly worked for me.
Sep 02, 2006 06:11 pm Yeah I was actually thinkin about cigs and alchohol. That definatly works over time if you want a raunchy metal voice, but the question is if it is worth the trade.

Sep 02, 2006 08:20 pm I have to agree, my voice is nothing like it used to be. I would indeed be more suited now for either a mellow soft ballad or a horse worn out type voice. Not much of anything left inbetween those two.
