It will all depend on what you are in need of. Fruityloops is a loop sequencing program used to create 'Loops'
And Cakewalk Pro - well that depends on what cakewalk program it is. It could be a multitracking program or something similar to Fruity.

Do you already use software for recording? What are you looking to achieve? If you are able to give us some more info then we can help out a bit more.

Oh and Welcome to HRC!!! (probably the best music recording forum in the world) (dB that was for you!)

Cakewalk is the name of a company that makes loads of programs. www.cakewalk.com Sonar being their flagship app, a multitracking application, Project 5 being their MIDI sequencer and collection of virtual instruments.

I use FL studio for lots of my drum sequencing. I also use FL studio for playing soundfonts, as the midi / soundfont engine works well with me.

It also has some good add-ins, plus some good ones for a fee.

the soundfont player is extra 40$ or so.

I also use their sytrus soft synth, which I got for 50$ on a group buy. It's very involved, and comprehensive.
