I was looking at that school myself. What do you want to take there? I know that it doesnt just rely on your transcript but you also have to audition to get in. They arent very specific about that either so you would have to call them I guess. For instance, if you wanted to be a film scorer...I don't know how you would audition for that...

Here's the scoop..

You can do the onlie extentions program but they may not be condiered as credits towards you undergraduate degree. There's a 2 year on campus reguirement to complete you undergarduate studies.

Yes, I knew they had online courses. There is a member here who took them actually. But I wonder how you could really learn online? I mean the whole point is to go and experience it and have someone right there to show you things. I do pleeeenty of online research and learning about this stuff without paying money for it hehehe. (I'm in it more for the learning than the degree)

But still I wonder about the audition mumbo jumbo...I just heard about it, I don't really know. Did you find out anything concerning that?

Not that I saw. The only requirements they have is having the base knowledge of what you're getting into. For instance, the film scoring course, you have to know how to read and write music, understand MIDI and a few other tasks, but nothing about an audition. Possibly when you get to the school, but they don't mention it about online courses.

Here is an old thread about music education. The person who took the online courses commented in it...

Here is her profile. It has her homepage and email in it so perhaps you could get some feedback from her on the online courses...

Oh alright. I believe if it has to do with playing an instrument, then you would have an "audition" but for something like film scoring, you might just take a little test to get in. Otherwise how would they know that you posess the basic knowledge. Yep, sounds reasonable.

Full Sail in Florida is another good option.

The facilities at Berklee look pretty dated as well..and the rooms look very drab. Full Sail is pretty crazy with all of its new stuff. Their site is really nice too.

Full Sail is a much more up to date school for audio recording and other interest's in audio. Berklee is however a very fine school, so not knocking them at all. It is just Full Sail does take advantage of all the latest technology to get you up and running.

I think Berklee is recognized as one of the finest music schools in the country. I would consider going there if I was looking for a full music education. Full Sail is a recording and engineering school if I understand correctly. There is a pretty big difference.

Well it all depends on what you are trying to do. In my case, I want to score film. Well both Berklee and Full Sail have dedicated programs but Full Sail is more up to date. Berklee also requires you to know music and basic MIDI already so there isnt a real rounded course within that major. So when it comes down to that major between the two schools, I think I might choose Full Sail based on what I actually see both of them offering. Not only on reputation.

But obviously Full Sail is more like a tech school so it is indeed focused on recording and engineering. If we are talking about music related courses outside of that, then Berklee would do the trick.

coolo, I absolutely agree. Berklee is one of the finest schools around for music education. But as stated, it is geared more towards the performing end of things. Full sail keeps up with the dreaded stae of the art recording gear and related playing hardware. You can litaraly go to school there without bringin much of your own gear. And they do have a good reputation for with the film industry from what I have read.

I would think that if you wanted to learn the music theory of writing a score, then you would be better off at Berklee, but if you wanted to learn how to actually get that score recorded and have a tangible product that sounds great, then Full Sail might be more up your alley.

I would guess that if you went to Berklee without a decent knowledge of music theory under your belt, you would likely feel pretty lost.
