Hurricane Katrina Victims Report...

I have been hearing interesting reports the last few days regarding many aspects of the people that escaped/survived Hurricane Katrina...I am hoping I can find web site links of some of this stuff.

The areas which took major groups of people from New Orleans, Houston, Texas comes to mind as one, the crime rate skyrocketed last year. The FEMA aid that was given to the people spent 1.4 billion of the aid on vacations, football tickets, 'adult' entertainment, expensive champagne and clothing and much more.

This just totally pisses me off...and yet they still sit down there and whine people didn't do enough, fast enough, blaming everybody but themselves for getting the hell out of town when they were told to. Then, to take the emergency money and spend foolishly like that...

Grrrrr, these reports are pissin me off...

Yeah, I just ignore it now but it pisses me off as well. And gonig along with the wasted money issue, I just got done watching the discovery channel on that $300,000,000 NASA project that is intended to slam into a comet so they can see inside...and it looks like it may not even be able to carry out its mission which is a waste in the first place.

Money is just being flushed down the toilet on dumb people and useless causes.

btw dB, I didn't want to spam your business email and it seems weird just to make a post for this quesion so i will ask it here. I was just curious if you would be interested if I were to offer an Avatar collection for the page. I don't have one now but since I have so much time on my hands, I can conjure up a good collection and send it your way. Lemme know :)

If it wasn't for government projects that wasted money I would have never met Noise and DB :)

One of the projects I was working on was blowing though about $30K a day in just chartered airline tickets. It also took over 2 major hotels for three months...

Yes...such a waste. I was just watching the news about the Katrina money. One person who didn't even live in New Orleans claimed the adress of a cemetery in the city as his house adress and was issued a check. There were several cases like that actually...

Like I said, most of those people would steal from their own mothers.

Yep, pissed off I am.

Well... speaking from experience the government will get it's money back if it wants... and with all the political attention, it will want to... I still owe about $500 after an accidental double payment on a travel advance and salary just before I left service... no tax refund for me :P

They'll probably get warning letters for 2 years before they get creamed by the recoupments...

people need to learn to never screw the government out of money... they have all the means necessary to take it back when it will hurt you the most... these people are up for a lifetime of no tax refund, insurance payouts, inheritance, and possibly a steeply gouged paycheck...and thats if they don't decide to criminally prosocute all these people.

Yeah a woman from FEMA jumped in at the hearing and said that FEMA was just trying to cover as many victims as possible in a quick manner because their system was overwhelmed. They basically went for a "Pay now, ask questions later" plan, but they say they will track down all of the frauds and get their money back.

I agree that you can't screw the government out of money and get away with it in almost all cases. Like playing with fire...

totally...but then, try to track down some of those people, if they spent their money on lap dances and vibrators, odds are they don't have a very permianent residence...eventually tho...

Yeah it would be challenging considering the amount of offenders but the government is actually pretty good. My father lives in Maine with no electricity or running water in the middle of the woods and moves around to different cabins and trailers over time. Even his friends don't know where to find him but within a month or so the feds got papers to him for a court hearing. So if it involves their money, then I'm sure the government would step it up even more than that :)

I would be willing to bet they dont even recover 40% of what was spent fruadulantly! But let you or I under pay our friggin taxes by $10.00 and the government would be all over our backsides.
