What on earth is a VST? I understand it's some kind of plugin, but the only kinds I'm familiar with are RTAS and Audiosuite.

Jun 04, 2006 03:51 pm It is known as Virtual Studio Technology invented by Steinberg. VST is the format for that type of effect pluggin and VSTi is for the sftware synthisizers
It is just a proprietary form of RTAS, DX, AU and the rest. It is really the most commin type of pluggin next to Direct X.
Jun 05, 2006 06:56 pm VST Plugs - ahh, the joy!!
Where one can aquire a chorus, phaser, eq, compressor, gate etc and never leave the PC (with Sooooooooooooo much more besides!).
Best site for VST's - www.kvr-audio.com - simply, the best.
Endof!
Enjoy and have fun downloading all those joyous free VST's!
All the best.

Jun 21, 2006 12:19 am do they work for pro tools?
Jun 21, 2006 12:35 am Pro Tools does not support VST plug-ins directly. You can run them with adapters though. I know of a combination where "DirectConnect" routes the VST audio into Pro Tools and VST wrappers or "Ugly VSTi Interface" as it is known, allows VST to be opened within Pro Tools which enables interaction.
Jul 04, 2006 03:08 pm ...another reason to avoid a restrictive and over priced system like pro-tools methinks ;-)
That said, each to their own and if it works for ya, all the best.
