Mixing head phones

This morning as I walk downstairs I find that my dog has chewn up my old closed ear headphones. They were nice but i think they were kinda junked. I have about a 100$ budget. I would like the headphones to be my main listening device when mixing, yet I would still be using them for tracking. Anyone have any thoughts?

I was looking at a sennheiser pair (one at the top of this page www.homerecordingconnecti...man=Sennheiser)

A good all around pair would be the AKG K240m.

The page you linked wouldnt come up but Sennheiser makes some great ones as well.

I couldnt get that page either but I bought a Sennheiser pair for $100 and they werent the best. The sound seemed fine but they werent very comfortable. Its like they are trying to crush your head, and my pair had a crackling defect in the left ear so I just returned them and purchased the sony MDR-V600 pair of closed headphones instead for the same price. They sound quite nice to me.

I loved my old Pioneer pair though. They were from the 70's with all metal and leather construction and individual volume knobs on each ear. That pair is a monster with great sound but it fell apart within the last year or so at two joints that happened to be plastic :( ...they still work fine electronically though...lol my friend who composes with me sometimes used to call me princess lea when I used them because they are so big...as you can tell I liked those headphones...ok time to stop talking...

Oh yeah and the AKG K240m that Noize mentioned seem to be a good value. I even saw a pro studio working with Square Enix using them for their voice actors when they were doing voiceovers.

Thanks noize and goldenmean. I heard from other reviews that the sennheiser did sometimes have those defects and that it wasn't too comfortable. Ill look into the AKG K240ms.

I have the Sennheiser HD-240 Pro, and I love them. I think that they're very comfortable, and they sound great.

My only knock against them is that their mid-low frequency response is pretty weak. the lows are intact, but at around 120Hz-240Hz or so they're attenuated. But other than that, they're very accurate, flat and extremely detailed.

I also have a pair of Sennheisers that are geared more for consumer audio (eH-150). They greatly exaggerate the bass but they're still very comfortable and have good detail, but not nearly as much detail as the HD-240.
