I'm recording with a Presonus Firepod and Cubase LE. In the Firepod's control panel on the pc I have it set to 24/96, in Cubase I have the project set to 24/96, but when I go to export a wav, it will export and everything without displaying any problems. When I go to run the file in itunes, windows media player, or anything else it says there is an error with the file. I'm exporting the file as a stereo, interleaved wave, and the only way I can export the file to be able to be played is at 16/44. I'm really confused the Firepod is advertised as being able to record at 24/96. Or am I just retarded about something?

well, this could be alot of things of which I would not have a clue. However I think maybe your program in the end result only exports a playable file at 16/44 because thats what all media playback is pegged at for the industry standard. All of your stuff can record at 24/96 which gives you alot of slack for digital effects and other degradations of your signal before mixdown. But in the end it will play on a cd player or media player that runs at 16/44 only when the file itself is at 16/44. I'm not sure if bit depth is as much of an issue with some players but I think if you have 96 samples trying to fly into a player that can only read 44 samples per second then you will have an error.

I could be wrong here but thats my only thought.

itunes, medial player and the like cannot play anything above 16/44. That is tha nature of those beast's. So taht is the problem you are having. It doesnt matter if the firepod is capable, only software that can utilize that 24/96 will use it. And the media players cannot use it.

iTunes on my mac mini(OS10.4.5) will play 24/44.1 files, my G4 at work won't, i think my powerbook will too though - can't recall the OS of the latter two, ten something. I'm sure at some point i played back some 24/48 files on iTunes on the powerbook too, can't be entirely certain though.

Ya, someone stated the WinAmp as well will do 24/44 but I havent tried loading anything yet. The new player in Nero is supposed to be pretty high end as well, I will have to look at that one as well.
