Hey mellow, the UX-2 is a sound card. Once you are hooked up via USB you are all set. Simply choose it as your recording and playback device in your recording application and your good to go.

Well the toneport does not have conventional MIDI operation so you cannot connect your keyboard. You could only connect it for live sound via the two line level 1/4" jacks.

Overall, the toneport is geared towards recording the much used guitar, bass, and vocals for popular music. But it doesnt really function as a great central hub for all sorts of recording needs and configurations. You would need to get other equipment or you could buy an interface with more variety.

Technically, you do not need another soundcard though to use the toneport. It will send all of its signal data through the USB port straight to your computer.

You can plug you AUDIO outs into your toneport and record your keyboard that way, you just can't record MIDI.

You can actually plug the keyboard direct into the UX-2 if you would like. And as stated you will be recording the keyborad sounds as you play them live.
