ok, I payed over $400 for this E-MU 1820 and I installed the latest drivers and did everything the manual said including removing all other sound devices and software. However, the system does not seem to recognize or even power the external audiodock.

The manual states that a power converter cable should come with the unit but I did not recieve one. I assume this should connect from my PC's power supply to the 1010 PCI card but I cant find anything online or on E-MU's website that talks about or shows this cable...

Just wondering if anyone owns this unit and can tell me if they are using this cable that I am supposidly missing...

Does that manual show what it looks like, or even where exactly it goes?

I found it, www.emu.com/products/prod...p;product=10227

I cant believe they would actually supply the dock and not the cable. How absurd is that, and at $400.00 that is absolutely the lamest thing I have ever heard of. Then charging you $20.00 plus shipping to buy a cable that should be with it in the first place.

I know! But it was guitar center's fault. They have been canabalizing all of the emu stuff to make up for parts they lost etc. So needless to say, I went over there today after posting this and they took the power cable from the emulator X package and just gave it to me. I'm glad they were not stuffy about it...

Now that I have it working though, its really a maze as far as all of the channels, inputs, and outputs. There are like 32 ASIO channels and tons of physical ins and outs and all of the digital are switchable etc. Its hard to navigate but I hope I get used to it because from the little I have done with it, it sounded pretty good and the effects are actually good too.

By the way Noize, that is the EDI cable connecting the card to the Dock, the power cable I was talking about is not on the site. But I did end up finding it in the manual. Its hard because they use one manual to describe all of their audio system models that I didn't even purchase and then there are also 2 other languages so its kinda confusing.

According to the description on that page, that cable it supposed to suplly power to the dock as well.

Quote:
The AudioDockM or Audidock connects to your 1010 PCI card via the EDI (E-MU Digital Interface) cable. This cable provides a two way data link (MIDI and audio data) between the 1010 PCI and the AudioDock as well as supplying power to the AudioDock. It's always a good idea to have a spare!

Something is very strange here.

I might try and dig a little more info up if I can. Post back if you hear anything else from GC or anything.

The EDI cable provides power to the dock but the PCI card needs power to give the dock. In order to obtain this power it must tap into the PC power supply with the power converter cable. So even if you have the EDI cable, it is useless without the power converter cable.

AH, I see. Well then I would make GC get you the cable. Since it was their mistake having ripped it out of the package. IN fact if they wont help you out. I would tell them to take the thing back and order it from soemone else. I have a bad habbit of opening the box right there and making sure everything I paid for is in there. That way you simply walk back in the store and return or exchange it.
