A question for the U.K. people

What online retailers do you use the most? Or at least which ones have good prices and service?

I was talking to someone in Europe this morning and he was commenting about how Musician's Friend will only ship some items outside of the U.S., which severely limits his options for buying recording equipment.

I did some searching around the forums here because I know that someone has mentioned some reputable UK online dealers but I came up empty.

So where do you all order from online?

click on the 'studio equipment' over there on the right, and it'll show the Sound Control company, for UK music equip

dB brought them online as a equip affiliate a few weeks ago.

Yep, I went with Sound Control based on some feedback from HRC's UK staff members and other friends.

They are OK for prices and all that, but not nearly as hospitable as zZounds is with me as an affiliate... :-(

Don't say the MF word on these forums, I never want to hear that name spoken again...bastages.

I run into the same problem here in Canada. Most music shops won't send to Canada. Not even catalogs. A lot of times I have to use eBay stores.

When I decided to dump MF I looked all over for better coverage for shipping and quite simply, could not find one...too many issues, most of which are not due to the retailer themselves but contractual obligations pressed by the manufacturers...not to mention the whole import/export problems and expenses due to countries being childish and hating each other like playground kids.

Bottom line is I didn't pick these two just off the cuff, I did weeks of looking, emailing places, asking questions, checking what they allow me to do and not allow and such things...zZounds is without a doubt a cool place, responsive and they listen to people. Sound Control not-so-much (or at all) but they have a reputation...if I could find a better UK shipping retailer, I would have reservations changing them...so if people have suggestions, pass 'em on!

I tend to go into turnkey to get information and usually the guy will be rude and abrupt (they're on commission) so i go to rose morris pro audio and buy from there. The last time however (i was looking for a new audio interface, bought the Tascam 1804 in the end) the guy in turnkey was really really helpful and took his time with me but didn't have the product in stock, and the guy in rose morris was really rude and abrupt so i went to digital village and got it for £50 less.

We tend to pay the same price in pounds as you US guys do in dollars for a lot of gear, it's a complete PITA.

Agreed.

Sound Control are probably the biggest in the UK.

I used them for a LOT of my gear including my guitars, amps and some of my recording gear like card, preamps etc.

Coco.
