As I recall from my review of the product www.homerecordingconnecti...tory&id=611 it comes with a decent manual and online help. Have you read the manual at all> Have you looked at amazon or any bookstore for books to help? Home Studio and Sonar have the same interface so the basics of using them are very similar, so you could get a Sonar book perhaps.

I am using the Fast Track USB from M-Audio for my guitar & get nothing through my speakers. I have read the manual & will continue.
I thought it was plug in & record after brief instructions. It is way more involved for us non software pros.
I want to lay down drum tracks to record guitar tracks over them. Does this system include that ability I.E. an on board drum machine of sorts?
The Fast Track USB from M-Audio has its own software with what appears to be a mini looping & effects program as well.

If you loaded up all the drivers for your M-Audio, you have to go to options in home studio and set the drivers.

If you truly have a manual and have read it, it's not rocket science to arm a track and set an input.

The fact that the Fast Track M-Audio has it's own software with mini looping etc. has nothing to do with the problem.

The manual for Home Studio is pretty simple to follow and if you have your serial number, there are lots of tutorials available at cakewalk.com

Good luck. JD

guitarstar, can you see that anything is being recorded or have you not gotten that far yet. The not hearing part of it will be one of two things.

1: You need to select the input/output drivers for the Fast Track in the audio/options section of Home Studio. Then arm a track and select the input/output for that particular track.

2: The drivers need to be installed correctly and you need to make sure the Fast Track mixer panel is set up correctly.

For the drum machine part of it, you can use the []bVirtual Sound Canvas[/b] that is included and drop some midi drum loops into the track for it, or as well program your own.

And yes, the tutorials in the help section as well as on the instalation CD will be loaded with exactly what you are looking for as far as help goes.

Thanks for the help but the manual is confusing. I am looking to hire some one to just get me up & running.

I can understand how it can seem confusing. My band uses Sonar 5 to record, and we are learning more about the program every day. Still, once you get it up and running, it's fairly easy to use, so as others have said, it's the getting it up and running part that might be difficult for you. That difficulty could apply to any program, though, whether Cakewalk Pro Tracks, Cool Edit, or Cubase.

As Noize said, you'll have to make sure that your input/output is set up properly and that you have installed the right drivers.

Regarding the drum tracks, there are some options with the virtual sound canvas in the program, but you could also just use the built-in metronome at first as a click track if you want. If you want to lay down a drum track first but don't like the options available in Sonar, you might consider using a separate program such as Fruity Loops to generate a drum track and insert it into the Sonar mixer, or you could try to download some real drum loops.

The bottom line is, you can certainly figure out how to get started without paying someone to help you, and if you continue to have trouble, just keep reading the manual and online forums for advice, or try contacting technical support with the manufacturer for troubleshooting.
