Pitch Shift On Vocals

I'm just adjusting some vocals by 3-4 cents usually using the protools audiosuite pitchshift. Should I stay away from this? I'm doing it on the whole vocal. I feel their a tad bit to high, midrange and it irritates the ear after a while. It sounds better to me, but I just feel like I'm messing with something crucial. Also, if I pitch shift, save, but decide I don't like the shift, can I just pitch shift it back up with no loss in resolution or anything? This pitch shift is not a aux, its a physical effect, so I simply can not just undo after I save. Any help would be appriciated.

I will always archive the track before doing any destructive editing if I think I may screw things up. As a general rule I will always do a save as and add the mix number say rocksong 2 to the file name. This will allow me to go back to alternate mixes if the need arises.

But if you are just messing with the vocal track I would suggest just exporting that track and saving it incase the result of the destructive edit is not to your liking. the other option and I use this frequantly is to just copy the track to another track and then mute it. Again if the edit on the track stinks, you simply delete it and use the un-edited version. No loss of quality when you make a direct copy.

But as for the pitch shifting itself. Sometimes it is an absolute must if things are out of key or something.
