Hi everyone. I've been considering recording a CD via computer.I was looking into a multi-track software program when I realized I have something called Audacity that might work just as well. Does anyone know anything about it? How's the sound quality?

Jan 19, 2006 09:31 am Audacity sounds good and has some great effects and such bundled with it, but it's not really a "multitracking program" so to speak. It has the ability to handle multiple tracks. For a true multitracking application, and still being free, I suggest looking in to www.kreatives.org/kristal/

So basically, audacity can't layer tracks, like I can't harmonize with myself? Hey, wait it says on Audacity's site that it can "Dub over existing tracks to create multi-track recordings...Record up to 16 channels at once (requires multi-channel hardware)". Hmmm...?
Thanks for the link!
Jan 19, 2006 10:16 am yeah, you should be able to (though I have never used it for that) but thats not really what it is made to do, it would not be as easy as doing it with something like Kristal Audio Engine, which I linked to above...or I suspect it wouldn't be anyway...multitracking is what Kristal is made to do.
