How long are the tom samples? You may be running into a problem where the decay of the toms sound, as some toms can decay longer than other drums, is interfering with the next tom sound and you start piling them up and you get a whole mess of decays on each other.

I have never had it happen personally, but I don't program many rolls, I could see where if the sample was a lot longer than the time beofre the next hit it could get ugly.

Maybe try opening that smaple in an editor and shortening the length of the sample by fading out the decay quicker and trying to use that sample for just rolls and see what happens.

And let me know what happens as well ;-)

have you tryed playing with the velocity of the hits? if all the hits in your roll are at the same volume it is very noiticable that its playing a sample over a over again...if you think like a drummer it helps alot ....sometimes i play the beat on a table over and over again to see ware i hit it harder, with rolls i will play it as slow as posible on the table how i want it to sound so i can see.

you can also go into the piano roll mode and adjust the length of the hits individually.

other option is to edit the sound from the window that pops up when you click on that tracks button.

As both collapse and dB said, there are a lot of tool's in FL to help you adjust the duration and velocity and many other parameter's of the sample sound. I have done some very tweaked roll's and over lay's with FL and not run into any problem. But like dB said, you may be using a sample that is just a bit to long for the rool you want. So it really is just a matter of shortening the note duration, and cutting the tail off.
