Looking for recs on live recording equipment

Hi. I'm looking to put together a small live recording setup for Indian music. The instrumentation will be as follows:

- Vocalist
- Violinist
- Percussion - this is a cylindrical drum laid on it's length and the musician strikes both ends with his hands - each side is differently tuned
- Occasionally a fourth drone instrument that is stringed. Similar to a sitar.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to record each instrument to a separate track for later mixing if possible.

I'm wondering if anyone can give me any recommendations on what types of mics I will need, how much I should spend for a decent recording quality, and perhaps some recommendations on recording device.

I'd greatly appreciate any advice on this topic! Thanks in advance!!!

Welcome to HRC.

Well you have 2 choice's as far as recording devie's go. You can use a laptop with a seperate audio interface, USB and firewire device's are becoming more popular for use live with laptop's. There are a few here to give you an idea. www.homerecordingconnecti...t&cat_id=22

Or the other alternative is to go with a stand alone digital recorder. You can look at a few differant model's here. www.homerecordingconnecti...t&cat_id=16

Have a look at those for starter's and let us know which alternative look's more like something you need and we can go from there. As for the mic's, again there are many to choose from. It is really a personal preferance kind of thing. Again you can see a few of the choice's here. www.homerecordingconnecti...st&cat_id=5

There are many more type's to choose from. Have a look at those and again we can guide you from there.
