Power Conditioner and Speakers

Ive got my speakers plugged into a power condtioner. With the position of the power conditioner my right speaker doesnt have that much slack. i wanted to give it a little more by adding an extension cord to the right speaker (left one plugged directly in), would doing this add any color to the sound of my right speaker?

Thank you

Now that is a very good question. Never been asked before, and honestly I have never thought of that being a possability since these active moniter's came out.

Theoreticly it should not color the sound at all. But that said, yes you are inducing more resistance into the power supplied to the right speakers amp.

I would however have to stick with the notion that it would not color the sound any noticable amount doing that. As the amp should be able to still draw the same 120 vac as well as have it's current draw satisfied to the same degree as the left speaker.

Only real way to tell is to try it and see.

Don't coil your extension, that will increase the resistance in the line.

I think electrons would travel very fast (I'll try and find the figure..... How longs your extension? I want to work out the delay lol) and that the (eg) .0000000002 nanosecond of delay would definitely not be noticable by the human ear.

Are you adding an extension to the amps power cord or the speaker cable? just wondering.

Damn skippy Noize.

-At Colonel, im going to be plugging the extension cord only into the right speaker. Not sure the length.

Electrons travel at approximately 1 foot per nanosecond. Not that it is relevant here. It would be if it were a long audio signal run.

What concerns me is not the length of your power cable, but its girth (hehe).

Seriously, if it is a cheap 14-16 gauge extension and especially if it is a "lamp cord" extension and not grounded, your signal may suffer. I have to wonder what you are getting for $2.99.

As was already stated, don't coil. Separate audio from power as much as possible and when you have to cross, try to do so at 90 degree angles.

Dont know about its girth (ahem), but i do know that it is grounded. I will check on it tonight after i light some candles.

Thanks netstat. I couldn't find the figure : (. And I'll take your word on the non relevance.

Make sure its on the same circuit as the other speaker as well.

Good point CS, indeed make sure it is on the same cirquit. That will hlep eliminate any ground loop that might occur otherwise.
