So, It's my sister's birthday and I'm writing a song using a poem she wrote as the lyrics. I had a melody in my head and I used my guitar to figure out the notes and the key. I'm pretty experienced in music playing and reading, I just need to know how to make a simple chord progression from a melody.

The key is G flat, and the note progression is as follows (so far) : Db, Ab, Gb, F then... Ab, Ab, Gb, Gb, F, Eb, Db.

I would greatly appreciate tips and any help I can get! Thank you!

do you know diatonic theory?

what mood do you think this song should have?

here are the notes in this key:

gb, ab, bb, b, db, eb, f

the diatonic chords for this key are:

g flat maj7

a flat min7

b flat min7

b maj7

d flat dominant 7

e flat min7

f dim7

but substitute e flat maj for the f dim 7: dont use f diminished: no one does.

these chords should mostly all work. if you dont know 7th chords, (sounds like you do, though) then just reduce those to triads, forgetting about the 7th note.

also think about using a major and d major (either maj7 chords or d7 chords, i forget.) these are from the blues scale, but theyre very useful.

if you are looking for a specific mood, there may be other useful chords...

one chord im endeared to right now would be (in this key) b minor. the minor IV chord. its so heartbreaking. this is the chord in 'creep' by radiohead that sounds sweet but tragic. i just found a way to use it in a new song im writing and i just cant say enough about it. it doesnt have to sound like radiohead when you use it.

but one way to use it here would be to first hit the b major chord (probably shortly after you've visited the I chord (g flat maj) and then drop right into b minor, possibly droppping the e flat melody note to d when that change happens.
