Recently on here i asked about multitrack recording and the answer was getting a sound card with multiple inputs. I have read lots of reviews and lsitend to ppls advice and the m-audio delta 1010lt looks the way to go, however i ahve a question about the 6 inputs im looking at using. It has 6 analouge inputs and are they preamped in the card or am i gonna need a preamp before the mics go into the card? i currently have a mixer which obviously has enuf pres, but when i use the direct outs on them the volume and EQ controls become obsolute and dont effect the signal so does this meen the IMPS in the mixer no longer effect the signal? if i am totally ont he rong track please let me know and give ne help u can so i can start recording my drums properly, thanks

Well yes it does have pre amps in it. Only 2 of them though which are the XLR connectors. The other channels which there are actually 8 of if you dont use the XLR's are input with the RCA type connectors. It also has 2 channels of S/PDIF digital i/o as well as midi i/o.

As for using the pre's in your mixer, yes the pre's will actually be in the path even if you use the direct outs from your mixer.

u sure about the pres still being used? cos if i plug in a mic then use the out (Which is actually the jack input which can also be used as an out) the volume and EQ pots dont effect ne thing, u sure it still uses the pre amp bnefore it sends it out? just to give u more help the mixer im using is a behringer eurorack ub1202. (official behringer info on it at www.behringer.com/UB1202/index.cfm?lang=ENG)

thanks for posting btw :)

Noize is, in part wrong above. I believe the 1010lt has 2 preamped inputs but only 6 RCA analog inputs, then a couple digital inputs.

Your direct outputs must be before the EQ section...

I'm lookin' at your mixer, and I don't see how you're going to get more than 3 outs from it. There are no line outs or direct outs, and only a single "FX" out. Say you use Mic1, Mic2 & Mic3. Mic1 gets panned hard left & level at "0", Mic2 gets panned hard right & level @ "0", Mic3 gets "centered", level at oo "infinity" hard counter-clockwise, and the "FX" at "0". 2 other mics go into your 1010LT XLR connectors. Mic1 comes out the Behringer Left Main and goes to the 1st RCA analogue in on the LT, the Behr Right Main goes to the 2nd LT RCA, and the Behr FX Send goes to a 3rd. If you want more than that, I think you'll need a different mixer...

The jack inputs on each track also work as direct outs, they do on the line mono tracks ne way, so i can get 4 from them, dont know bout the other 4 stereo outputs tho. so has the general agreement been that altho each trak loses the EQ when using the direct out, the pre amps are still in play, so im not gonna need to fork out for a preamp as well as the card

Yes, the direct outs use the pre-amps on almost every mixer out there. And you would have the 2 XLR connectors on the 1010 LT that are pre-amped as well.
