hello fellow recording colleagues noize,db,george. well i just finished this band, and was doing a premaster. i would just like to know your highly respected opinions. these were recorded with my new AT4047 codenser mic. it seems that i am having a problem with sibilance, i tried to use a DE ESSer, but it makes the singer sound like he has a lisp. any suggestions?

take an ear to these two clips:

that domain is not leting me download or listen to the songs, you should zip them or stream them...

Never mind, I got them, ya gotta right click and "Save Target As".

Decent instrument sound, I would personally add some sass and sizzle to the guitar is "Song8" and the vocals need some balls...the sound is pretty buried in the mix...

I like the high-hat and snare, the kick is a little weak. overall, I like the drum sound. Bass is pretty sound too, considering the music, I think I would thin the bass up a little and bring it into the mix more, not much but a little.

Overall, stupe, I think you did a great job.

Stupe, dB, and all,

Hope I have not oversteped my bounds on this one. I took the liberty of downloading Song8. Something I have not managed to set up is any sort of reliable critique system for what I record. This helps me compare what I have heard to the critiques listed. It is very enlightening for me.

Again, I hope no one minds. If so I have subscribed to this thread. Make a mention and I will mend my evil ways!

Thanks!

Thanks noise!

You'll have to excuse me to some extent. I am an old person and have inenvertently been less than cool on ocasion. Mushcians, myself included can be very tempermental which is a good thing, but sometimes that creates friction which can get in the way of creativity. Remindes me of an old 60's term bogart. Now I am dating myself. Regardless this a great opertunity for me.

Thanks again!

walt, you have not overstepped anything. i believe this forum is made public so everyone can learn from it. I do the exact same thing you do. i like to download other peoples songs, and pro recorded songs, and analyze and critique them. sorta makes my mastering a little better.

Ok Walt, let's both not go there. How many song's can you remember that use that term, "bogart". I know those day's are just a blur now for me. So don't feel to old, I have been doing this since I was 4, and played in my first band at the age of 9. Try crankin on a big ol B3 when you can barely see over the top of it.

Ok, Nuf Said.

Now I go back to work and see If I can clear up the obvious deficiencies in my recordings! Still working on bass traps myself. Got a couple of tunes in my head by Christian McBride. WoW!

By the way Stupe, some real nice sounds in the mixes! Now I just need to figure out how you did it!

It may be purposeful, but the vocals sound kinda buried. I agree that the guitar could use some more ballsy sound. Wish I could say, do this or thaqt, but that is what my ear hears, sorry I can't make any helpful suggestions. Hope that it helps for what its worth.
