what can you say about the samson c-com 16 is it a digital compressor or an analog one. i'm surprised how cheap it is for a compressor is it a good buy or what? i want to be sure that i'm getting a decent compressor.

Oct 10, 2005 01:26 pm I believe these are digital. never used one (as i do all my comression through my Alesis syth or in software) but it got some decent reviews when it came out.
Oct 10, 2005 01:30 pm "The Samson C-Com Opti is an incredible value featuring true optical compression with the musical feel and soft, rich character of optical compressors costing hundreds of dollars more."
That would mean it's digital...but thats just the processing, the I/O is all 1/4" analog.

Oct 10, 2005 01:41 pm Does optical compression necessarily mean digital? I thought it was an analog process using light and a vaccum tube in some sort of Macguyver-ish fashion.
Now wouldn't it suck if somebody manufactured a compressor with only digital I/O? S/PDIF only, boys!
Or how about a punch-card interface? :-D Your compression will be applied in approximately 1 working week. Please wait...
Oct 10, 2005 01:44 pm I guess you have a point there, I look at optical as digital cuz it ain't traditional analog...I may not be perfectly accurate there...my use of optical is only outputs when I mix in surround, so I have never really got into the technicals, and really, as I get older I care less about the technicals and more about the art...maybe it's complacency, I dunno.
Oct 10, 2005 10:58 pm oh i almost forgot about that A/D D/A thing so it is processed in digital and still the output is analog, well in some sense it doesn't matter anymore but if i'm after for warmness still the analog and the tube version are my choices but they are way expensive and that's my problem hehehe!. Anyways, sir savant you got the point that art is important than of technicals.
