i was wondering if anyone had any recommended presets for cool edit 2.0 as far as the EQ, noise reduction, hard limitng and all that stuff goes. Im trying to get the best quality possible, even if you have some setting for cakewalk project 5, thanks

Sep 29, 2005 04:11 pm What kind of mic and interface are you using? What Kind of style are you mixing?
I like about 4:1 compression with a 10ms attack and 300 ms release so I'm getting abou 6 dB gain reduction tops. Then I'll stick an EQ on and put a +3dB high shelf at about 10 kHz., a mid Q boost at about 5kHz., and a HPF at about 80-100Hz.

Sep 30, 2005 02:17 am So, noise reduction, just highlight a sample of the noise you get open effects->noise reduction->noise reduction, and then click on a button that says something like get profile from selection. Then highlight the whole vocal take and open the same effect. Click ok, and this should remove most if not all of your background noise.
compression I use somewhere between 3:1 and 4:1 ratio. I use an attack (7-12 ms) and release (15-25 ms). For eq, cut about 4-8db at 80Hz and below. I usually give a slight boost in the vocals around 1200Hz to 1600Hz and cut just a little around 800Hz. But that's what works with my voice. I change it up some depending on the mc. But play with the parametric eq in Cool Edit, once you learn how to use it, you will be a sav.

Sep 30, 2005 02:12 pm i appreciate it man thanks
Sep 30, 2005 02:30 pm carefull with the attack and release times of your compressor, try to have them "in time" with the music....also, make sure your reverb compliments the vocal sound....i usually cut quite a bit of highs outta the vocal reverb...that'll sink the track into the mix. i wouldn't mess with noise reduction unless it's a real bad problem....don't try to polish a turd too much, it's better to start with a good sounding track....if you're gettin' alotta noise while tracking, checking your signal path, and proper gain staging is a MUST.
good luck

Sep 30, 2005 03:08 pm Yeah and to help with the noise reduction, check if your preamp's (if your using one) and or if your mixer is causing the problem - if so, re-invest in equipment ;)
