Novation X-Station?

Im well aware that the X-Station combines pretty much everything you need for home recording, minus mics and monitors. Im also aware that it has built in effects for inbound intruments (guitar for instance) but what I am NOT aware of is whether or not this thing replaces an amp model. If you plug straight into it, will it sound bad? will I still need to use an amp model? If this things any good its gonna save me a pile of money... and on a side-note, whats a good recording/mixing/mastering software thats a little more affordable than protools? thanx alot

Well both Sonar and Cubase SX are far less expensive then PT. And much easier to use.

As for the amp modeling in the X-Station, I dont think they are that far with it. And not sure they will ever go there with it seeing as there are several good amp modelers out there now.
